Work Text:
“I hate men!”
“No you don’t, Weiss.”
“Yes, I do! They’re pigs and awful and stupid and the worst and I hate them!” Weiss punctuated her statement with a punch to one of the couch cushions.
“And I’m sure this has nothing to do with the fact that Neptune dumped you.” Ruby raised an eyebrow at Weiss.
“No!” Weiss scowled at Ruby. “Maybe.”
Ruby just raised her other eyebrow expectantly as Weiss looked away awkwardly before finally giving in.
“Okay fine, yes! I’m being petty and bitchy because my stupid boyfriend broke up with me. Happy now?”
“No, but being honest about your feelings is the first step in healing. At least I think that’s what my old therapist said.”
“Maybe I don’t want to heal. Maybe I just want to drown my sorrows in wine,” Weiss grumbled, gesturing with her half-full glass before finishing it in one gulp.
“As is your prerogative,” Ruby laughed, sipping at her own glass.
“Ooh, that’s a big word. Someone’s been reading those books I recommended.”
“I read sometimes.” Ruby pouted over the rim at Weiss. “And they were good books.”
“Of course they are. I wouldn’t have suggested you read them if I didn’t think they were good,” Weiss said as she refilled her glass. “And it’s nice to hear you’re expanding your vocabulary. Not that you need to of course.”
Ruby snorted and took another sip of her wine. The two of them had already made their way through over half a bottle since Weiss arrived at her doorstep in tears a little over an hour ago. The sobbing had ceased fairly quickly with the help of the alcohol and Weiss moved on from depression to her current state of aggrievement.
“Who the fuck does he even think he is?” Weiss demanded, gesticulating clumsily with glass, the wine inside sloshing around dangerously. “Dumping me, of all people. I’ll have you know I’m a fucking catch.”
“That you are.” Ruby said with complete sincerity. Ever since she’d first met her, Weiss was consistently amazing and anyone would have been lucky to date her.
“And of all the days he decides to dump me, he chose fucking Valentine’s Day!”
“That was particularly shitty of him.”
“At the very least he could have waited until after our date,” Weiss continued to grouse. “Having a nice time would have softened the blow a little.”
“Well on the plus side, it means you aren’t wasting more time on a shitty relationship.”
“I suppose,” Weiss sighed deeply. “But I was really looking forward to this evening. I had it all planned out too.”
“I thought he was taking you out, not the other way around.”
“Oh, he was. I’m talking about the ‘dessert’.” Weiss wiggled her eyebrows.
Ruby cocked her head in confusion. “Dessert? Why wouldn’t you have that at the restaurant he was going to take you to?”
“...I mean sex, Ruby.” Weiss gave her a flat look. “The sex we were going to have when we went back to my place afterwards.”
“Ohhhhhhh.” Ruby nodded in understanding. She’d gotten too caught up in the dinner aspect of the date that she’d forgotten what would follow.
“Now you get it,” Weiss snorted with laughter. “It was going to be amazing, too. I had so much planned. I was going to blow Neptune’s mind.”
“I’m sure you were.”
“I even bought a new set of lingerie,” Weiss moaned in despair. “It was so expensive.”
“Well it sucks for Neptune since he’s never going to see it.” Ruby smirked. She couldn’t help but cast an eye over Weiss. She was dressed in what she liked to call her ‘relaxing’ clothes, but it was very easy for Ruby to imagine her all dolled up for date night.
“He doesn’t know what he’s missing,” Weiss agreed, taking an aggressive swig of wine. “Ugh, no one is going to know. Fuck, this sucks!”
“Hey, you’ve still got the lingerie. I’m sure you’ll be able to wear it for your next boyfriend.”
“Ugh, I don’t even know if I’m going to get another boyfriend after this.”
“Huh?”
“I mean, after this, I’m not sure I feel like dating men anymore.”
“Don’t you think that’s a bit of an extreme reaction?” Ruby raised an eyebrow.
“He dumped me on Valentine’s Day, Ruby. The only day that would have been worse to break up with me would be my birthday. And even then I’m not so sure.”
“And that sucks, but that doesn’t mean you have to swear off romance forever.”
“Who said anything about swearing off romance? Maybe this is a sign that I should go gay, like Yang. It’s been working out well for her, she and Blake have been together for as long as I’ve known them.”
“You can’t just ‘go gay’, Weiss.” Ruby rolled her eyes. “And if being gay was all you needed to have a long and satisfying relationship, how come I’m single?”
“Bad luck. You had a long and successful relationship before.”
“I broke up with my only girlfriend, Weiss. I don’t think that makes it a successful relationship.”
“Only because Penny moved away and neither of you wanted to do long distance. I don’t think that reflects poorly on your relationship with her,” Weiss pointed out, making Ruby wince. “Sorry. I shouldn’t have mentioned Penny.”
“It’s okay.” Ruby waved off the apology and sipped at her wine. The break up with Penny did still sting, especially since it meant this would be the first Valentine's day she'd be spending alone in several years. It was selfish to think, but a part of her was glad that she wasn’t the only one in their friend group who’d be spending Valentine’s Day alone.
“You know…”
“Know what?”
“Since we’re both single, instead of being sad and alone this evening, why don’t we spend it together?”
“What?!” Ruby squeaked, pink flushing her cheeks. Surely Weiss hadn’t been serious about going gay. She’d never given any indication before, other than the occasional joke back in high school.
“We can have an Anti-Valentine’s Day.” Weiss continued, oblivious to Ruby’s shock. “Celebrate being single and how we don’t need a partner. That’s a thing people do, right?”
“Oh, that’s what you meant.” Ruby deflated a little as she sighed. Back when she and Weiss had first met, she’d had a crush on her — a crush that had never fully gone away. “Yeah, we can definitely do that. Just a couple of single pringles celebrating our independence.”
“Single pringles? Seriously, Ruby?”
“What? It rhymes, so it makes sense.”
“I’m the one who taught you about rhyme as reason, Ruby. You’re not going to use it against me.”
“It was worth a shot,” Ruby giggled. “So do you know what we’re supposed to do on Anti-Valentine’s Day?”
“I don’t know.” Weiss’ brow furrowed as she drained the rest of her glass. “I don’t see why we have to do anything other than work our way through the wine and bitch about love.”
“Well, we only have so much wine.” Reaching out, Ruby picked up the bottle and peered inside. “What do we do when we finish the bottle?”
“We start on a new one, of course,” Weiss said with a shrug. “And we keep going until we pass out drunk or, god forbid, we run out of wine.”
“I really don’t think it would be healthy for us to do either of those things.”
“Come on, Ruby. I never get the chance to do things like this.” Weiss pouted at her, bottom lip thrust out in an adorable indignation that Ruby couldn’t help but stare at. “Let me have this. I was dumped just a couple of hours ago.”
“I guess you’ve earned a treat. One night of drunken debauchery.”
“Ha! I don’t think there’ll be any debauchery tonight. Though there will be a lot of drunkenness if we keep drinking at the rate we’re going.”
“Sounds good to me.” Ruby finished her own glass and held it out for Weiss to refill. “We can’t spend the whole evening bitching, though. I’m gonna get bored of that.”
“We could always watch a film or play one of those video games you keep trying to get me to play with you.”
“You’d really be my player two?” Ruby’s eyes lit up as a grin crossed her face. “You never want to play games with me.”
“It’s the least I could do. You’re keeping me company in my hour of need.”
“You’re keeping me company too.” Ruby’s smile softened affectionately. “You know, if I was going to spend my Valentine’s Day with anyone, I’d want it to be you.”
“Really? Even if you were dating someone?”
“Yeah. You’re my favourite person, Weiss. I love spending time with you.” Ruby’s heart fluttered a little in her chest at her confession. That crush of hers was raising its head again, threatening to remind her of all the things she’d buried for the sake of their friendship.
Without warning, Weiss scooched her way along the couch to wrap Ruby in a tight hug. “You’re my favourite person too, Ruby.”
She squeaked in surprise, the blush rising even further up her cheeks as she tried not to spill her wine. Weiss was way too close for her to be normal about this.
“Why would I need to date anyone when I’ve got you?” Weiss asked, her face buried into the crook of Ruby’s neck.
“Y-Yeah, same.” Ruby was torn between returning the hug and maintaining her propriety. Hugging in and of itself wasn’t inherently romantic, but it was a dangerous game to play when she was already tipsy and feeling lots of things she hadn’t felt in a long while.
“I’m not interrupting something, am I?” an amused voice asked from behind the couch. With a squeak, Ruby pulled away from Weiss, some of her wine spilling onto her T-shirt.
“Yang! What are you doing back so early?” she asked in between cursing as she plucked at her rapidly staining top.
“I may have snuck out of work early so I could get ready for my date.” Yang smiled guiltily. “What’re you doing here, Weiss? I would’ve thought you’d have a date tonight as well.”
“I did, before Neptune broke up with me this morning,” Weiss groused, pulling away from the hug to Ruby’s disappointment.
“Shit, he did?” Yang gasped and hurried over to the two of them. “That fucking bastard! Did he say why?”
“He gave all sorts of reasons. ‘We’re too different.’ ‘We want different things out of life.’ ‘It’s not you, it’s me’,” Weiss grumbled moodily over her glass. “I’ll be honest, I stopped listening after a while. I don’t really care why he broke up with me. Just that he did.”
“And on Valentine’s Day too, the asshole.” Yang huffed in agreement. “If you want, I can give Blake a call and—”
“No, Yang. Don’t cancel your date just because Neptune’s a jerk,” Weiss interrupted. “I’ll be fine. Besides, I’ve got Ruby.”
“Because we’re strong independent women who don’t need romance.”
“We’re a couple of single pringles doing an Anti-Valentine’s Day because we don’t need men!”
“Or women,” Ruby added.
“Exactly.”
“Okay then.” Yang failed to stifle a snort of laughter. “And from the looks of things, you two independent women have already drunk over half a bottle of wine.”
“And we’ll drink more if we so choose!” Weiss announced, throwing back another glass.
“Well if you do, be careful not to spill anymore.” Yang eyed the red patch on Ruby’s T-shirt. “Speaking of which, come on, Roob. I’ll help you with that before it stains.”
“Sure.” Setting down her glass, Ruby followed her sister out of the living room, pausing at the door to call back to Weiss. “I’ll be back in a bit. Don’t finish the wine without me.”
“I will make no such promise.”
Shaking her head and stifling her giggles, Ruby made her way down the corridor to the laundry room, where her sister was waiting with some cleaner.
“Chuck it in the wash, I can run a quick load.”
“I’m sure it’ll be fine with just a rinse, Yang.” Ruby rolled her eyes but did as she was told.
“So… You and Weiss are having an Anti-Valentine’s Day together.” Yang stated as she set up the machine.
“It’s not what you’re thinking, Yang. We’re both single so we figured we might as well be single together instead of just being alone,” Ruby huffed, recognising her sister’s tone of voice.
“Sure it’s not! Just you and the girl you’ve had a crush on for years hanging out together on Valentine’s Day. Drinking wine and Weiss is newly single…” Yang wiggled her eyebrows suggestively.
“I’m just being a good friend, that’s all.” Ruby pouted, crossing her arms. It was hard to look intimidating wearing a polka dot sports bra, though.
“Sure…” Yang rolled her eyes. “Look, Roobs. I know you’ve had this thing for Weiss for a long time, but she’s in a vulnerable state right now and I don’t think that the two of you should be starting something.”
“You really think that I’d take advantage of Weiss?”
“No, of course not,” Yang sighed. “But you deserve better than being a rebound. You both do.”
“Nothing’s going to happen, Yang. I promise. We’re just going to have a nice night in and get drunk, watch some shitty movies and talk shit about Neptune.”
“Right…” Yang said sceptically, turning the washing machine on. “Well, if you’re sure.”
“I am.”
“Okay, then.” Shrugging, Yang headed out of the room. “I’m gonna get ready for my date with Blake, then I’ll be out of your way.”
“You’re not in the way, Yang,” Ruby said, following her out.
“I get the feeling I will be soon.” Yang winked at her. “And you don’t need to worry about me coming back and interrupting you. I’m gonna be staying over at Blake’s place tonight. Though I don’t think either of us is going to be getting much sleep, if you know what I mean.”
“Ew. Of course I know what you mean, Yang.” Ruby rolled her eyes as Yang slipped into her bedroom. Sighing deeply, she meandered back into the living room to rejoin Weiss.
“Ruby? Is there a reason you’re just in your bra?” Weiss asked, her head peeking over the back of the couch.
“Ack!” Ruby squawked, her arms shooting up to cover herself. She’d gotten so distracted by Yang and her insinuations that she’d forgotten to grab a clean t-shirt on the way back. “Sorry, Weiss. I swear I just forgot.”
“Relax, Ruby. It’s fine.” Weiss waved off her embarrassment. Despite her nonchalance, Ruby could see a faint pink blush in her cheeks. It was probably just from all the wine. “Besides, I’ve seen you in way less clothing than this, remember?”
“Right, yeah.” Ruby’s own blush deepened as she recalled the time Weiss had insisted on taking her lingerie shopping so she could ‘properly’ celebrate her one year anniversary with Penny. She ended up modelling so many weird lacy girly things for Weiss that day, none of which really suited her, but would have looked great on Weiss.
“Polka dots look cute on you too,” Weiss added with an impish grin. The teasing managed to put Ruby’s anxiety to rest and she rolled her eyes as she dropped her arms and rejoined Weiss on the sofa. She didn’t know why she was worried. Weiss was straight. She wouldn’t care if she was in just her bra, especially this one.
“Well, if I don’t wear a shirt, I can’t get it soaked in wine,” she pointed out. Picking up her glass, she took a sip.
“True. But then you’ll get it on your bra instead and you’ll have to take that off too.” Weiss smirked over the top of her glass and Ruby’s heart skipped a beat.
“And I’m sure you’d hate that, straight girl,” Ruby fired back. Addressing Weiss like that was mostly to reassure herself, and she breathed a small sigh of relief that Weiss didn’t refute the designation.
“It would ruin my day,” Weiss deadpanned back, before cracking a smile and sipping her wine.
“Wasn’t it already ruined?”
“Oh no, Neptune dumping me on the second worst possible day was just a minor inconvenience. Having to see your bare breasts would be the worst thing I could possibly experience.”
“Am I really so repulsive?” Ruby asked in mock sadness.
“No, but I do hate to see something that reminds me of my own inadequacies,” Weiss sighed, looking down at her chest. “Oops, that might have been a little too truthful.”
“Don’t say that, Weiss.” Ruby pouted, shuffling over to pat her on the shoulder. “You’re not inadequate or anything like that.”
“My chest stopped growing when I was thirteen, Ruby. Just look at them, they’re so small.” Weiss pouted, puffing out and cupping her admittedly rather flat chest.
“Doesn’t mean they’re inadequate. There’s nothing about you that anyone could consider to be inadequate.”
“That’s kind of you to say, Ruby.” Weiss’ angelic smile made Ruby’s stomach backflip and she had to remind herself that they were just hanging out as friends — a task that was made almost impossible by Weiss’ next question.
“So in your professional lesbian opinion, are my breasts good enough, despite being so small?”
It took Ruby a lot of self-control not to spray Weiss with wine in a spit take. Coughing hard, she stared agog at Weiss. How was she supposed to answer a question like that?! Clearly Weiss was getting very tipsy, as a sober Weiss would never ask her something so brazen.
“I’m not a professional lesbian. I’d have to get paid to be a professional,” Ruby eventually spluttered out.
“You’re avoiding the question, Ruby.” Weiss leaned in, not breaking eye contact with her. “In your opinion as an amateur lesbian. Are my breasts good?”
“...Yes. Very good.” Ruby eventually managed to choke out. Her cheeks burned as her eyes darted between Weiss’ chest and her face.
“They’re not too small?”
“No, they’re not. They’re the perfect size.”
“Well now I think you’re just flattering me,” Weiss snorted. “I appreciate it though. You know Neptune hardly ever complimented my body? I don’t know if he didn’t want to come off as a pervert or if he was just an inconsiderate jerk.”
“Given he dumped you on Valentine’s Day, I’m leaning towards the latter.”
“Whatever his reason, he never complimented me for my looks and it really got me down.” Weiss sighed deeply. “A girl likes to be told that she’s beautiful sometimes.”
“Of course,” Ruby agreed. “And you are beautiful. You’re the prettiest girl I’ve ever met.”
“You’re just saying that.”
“I’m not. You really are,” Ruby said with all the sincerity she could muster. She didn’t care what Yang said about rebounds. She absolutely adored Weiss, and she wasn’t about to pretend that she didn’t have feelings for her.
“Thanks, Ruby.” Weiss smiled softly up at her. Ruby’s breath caught in her throat. The gap between their faces was so small, they’d barely have to move to close the distance and kiss. Ruby licked her lips as she imagined finally pressing her lips against the plush softness of Weiss’ and kissing her like she’d dreamed of for years.
“Right! I’m off. Have fun hating romance, you two!” Yang’s voice sounded out as she re-entered the living room, shattering the fragile moment. Ruby’s heart sank into the pit of her stomach and she reluctantly pulled away from Weiss, watching her sister as she strode across the room to the front door.
“We will. Say hi to Blake for me,” Weiss instructed, seemingly oblivious to the tension and back to her normal slightly inebriated state. Ruby, for her part, really wanted to strangle her sister for her terrible timing, but pushed her sisterly annoyance down as she waved goodbye.
“Have fun!”
Yang acknowledged the well wishes with a wave of her own before leaving the apartment. As the door swung shut behind her, Ruby was struck by how the two of them were alone again. For a few seconds, Ruby wondered if she could try to recapture the moment she and Weiss had shared before Yang interrupted them. A glance over at Weiss told her that it had well and truly passed as she was now focused on finishing her glass and pouring a fresh one.
“So, shall we find some terrible movie to watch?” Weiss asked as she set the bottle aside.
“Sure. I know just the one.” Getting up from the couch to sort out the film, Ruby pushed her feelings down. Despite that brief shared moment, she knew that Weiss was painfully straight. Nothing was going to happen between them, and that was fine. Weiss needed a friend right now, and Ruby was more than happy to be that friend. They’d watch some shitty movies, get drunk and commiserate over their shared singleness. Ruby could definitely do that.
“You know, when you said it was going to be terrible, I didn’t think it was going to be this bad,” Weiss groaned.
“Come on, it’s not that bad,” Ruby said, trying and failing to keep a straight face.
“This might be the most hack and predictable romcom I’ve ever seen.” Weiss gave her a flat look. “I don’t even watch romcoms and I still know exactly what’s going to happen.”
“Okay, yeah. It’s very by the numbers,” Ruby admitted with a grin. “But that’s what makes it perfect for Anti-Valentine’s Day.”
“You’re going to have to explain that to me.”
“Well, since we’re both so jaded by romance, it makes perfect sense for us to watch a movie that’s supposed to be all about it but totally fails because of how corny and predictable it is.”
“That does make a certain amount of sense,” Weiss said thoughtfully, sipping at her wine. They’d made it through most of their second bottle by now, and Ruby was definitely tipsy.
“Exactly. I wonder if anyone has ever watched this movie unironically.” Ruby hummed thoughtfully. “There’s gotta be a market for bland Hallmark movies. Otherwise they wouldn’t make them.”
“I’ve seen a few attempts to subvert the formula, not that they do it well. Maybe we’ve moved through the deconstruction phase and they’re now trying to reconstruct the genre,” Weiss suggested with a shrug.
“That was way too wordy for a girl on her… seventh? Glass of wine.”
“I happen to be very profound when I’m inebriated, thank you very much.” Weiss sniffed haughtily before breaking down into giggles. “Seriously though. Perhaps this is an attempt by the studios to cash in on the trend back towards sincerity being a good thing. That we’re not disaffected teens anymore and being sincere and cringe is good again. Like that guy with the frosted tips who eats terrible food.”
“You can still be sincere and not be boring and predictable,” Ruby fired back. “I’m sure we could write a romantic comedy film that’s both sincere and original.”
“Well, I already know how to improve this terrible film.”
“How?”
“The protagonist should get with her best friend instead of either of these mediocre love interests.”
“Her female best friend?” Ruby raised an eyebrow.
“Yes. They have far more chemistry with each other than she does with any of the men who she’s supposed to be interested in,” Weiss replied matter-of-factly.
“Really? I know I’m not usually an advocate for het stuff, but isn’t the small town guy a decent man?”
“Please, he’s just as mediocre as the rich ad exec,” Weiss dismissed with a wave of her hand. “So what if he’s showing her how to get back in touch with small town life? The only part of her life in the city that she seemed to dislike was how shallow and pathetic her boyfriend was. Everything else was great! A stable job, a good apartment, hobbies, and a best friend who supports her.”
“Huh, you’re right. They really didn’t do a good job showing her unhappy with living in the city.” Ruby’s brow furrowed in confusion.
“Exactly. So instead of leaving for some guy who treats her just a bit better than Mr. Shallow, leaving behind the career she herself said she spent years building, she should be making out with her best friend instead!” Weiss gesticulated wildly with her wine glass, somehow not spilling a drop. Ruby meanwhile was quite baffled that Weiss was taking this position, and how she seemed to be completely unaware of how she was in a similar position to the heroine.
“ You’re thinking pretty deep about this. I thought you were done with love. Isn’t that what Anti-Valentine’s Day was supposed to be about?”
“It was, but then I drank a few more glasses of wine, and that gave me some clarity,” Weiss explained. “I’m not done with love. I want it. I want to love someone and have them love me back. My ego was just bruised pretty badly earlier.”
“Bruising that seems to be healing thanks to the power of alcohol.”
“Indeed. No, what I’m done with is mediocre men.”
“Medicore men?”
“Yes. Whilst we were watching the film, I was thinking about just how mediocre Neptune really was. He never took an interest in anything I liked, didn’t make any effort to get to know my friends and worst of all, the sex was just the most average sex ever. I’ve literally given myself better orgasms than he ever did.”
“And it took watching this movie for you to realise that?”
“It did, and it is so fucking embarrassing,” Weiss moaned, drowning her sorrows in the rest of her glass. “Maybe it’s my daddy issues that made me stick with him all this time. Or societal expectations about relationships and heterosexuality, I don’t know. I bet there’s a paper in it somewhere.”
“I’m pretty sure lots of them have already been written,” Ruby laughed. “So you’re going to try dating again after tonight? Going to find yourself an above average man?”
“I would, but I don’t know how to find one.” Groaning, Weiss let her head flop on the back of the couch. “I haven’t exactly had much luck so far.”
“Well, what do you want in a partner?” Ruby cocked her head curiously. They’d never actually talked about this before, despite their years of friendship.
“I don’t know. I’ve never thought about it in detail,” Weiss admitted, pouring a fresh glass and finishing the bottle. “I suppose… I want someone who’s there for me. Someone who wants to be a part of my life and wants me to be a part of theirs. Who’ll pick me up when things are bad and who I can share the good things with.”
“You know what it sounds like you’re describing?”
“What?”
“Sounds to me like you’re describing a best friend, not a boyfriend,” Ruby tittered, smirking at Weiss. She’d fully expected Weiss to join her in her laughter at the criteria she’d laid out for a potential partner — but to her surprise, Weiss did no such thing.
“I suppose it does, doesn’t it,” she said with a pensive look. A silence fell between them, dragging on and on until Ruby finally broke it.
“Uh, Weiss? Why are you looking at me like that?”
“I was just describing my best friend, wasn’t I?” Weiss said, still looking at Ruby with that same thoughtful expression. “I was describing you.”
“I don’t think I understand.” Ruby’s brow knitted. Her heartbeat quickened as Weiss set her glass down and crawled across the sofa towards her.
“How did I not see it before?” Weiss continued to talk to herself as she approached.
Ruby swallowed. “See what?”
“You, Ruby. How did I not see that you were what I was looking for?” Weiss was on top of her now, face scant inches apart.
“I thought you were straight,” Ruby mumbled, eyes darting around. She didn’t know where to look, and her gaze kept returning to Weiss’ plush pink lips.
“I did too.” Weiss shrugged nonchalantly. “And maybe it’s because I’m a little drunk, but I find that I really want to kiss you.”
“You do?” Ruby’s heart threatened to beat right out of her chest. She felt incredibly exposed, wearing only her bra as Weiss hovered over her. This was everything she’d dreamed of; it felt a little unreal. She’d so thoroughly convinced herself that nothing was going to happen between the two of them tonight, she couldn’t believe that Weiss was actually doing this.
“I really do,” Weiss breathed, the heat of it cascading over Ruby’s cheek. “Do you want to kiss me, Ruby?”
“I-I…” Ruby stammered out, torn between propriety and giving into her desires.
“I know you do.” Weiss’ voice was barely a whisper now. “I pretended not to notice, but I know you’ve had a crush on me for ages.”
Ruby swallowed hard. “You did? But how? I thought I was careful.”
“It doesn’t matter how. I just did. So tell me that you want me to kiss you.”
Her breath caught in her throat as she stared into Weiss’ shining eyes. Her heart hammered in her chest as her mind raced until it finally settled on the words she should have said years ago. “Kiss me, Weiss.”
Weiss wasted no time fulfilling her request, swooping in and closing the short distance between them to press her lips against Ruby’s own.
It didn’t matter that they were both a little drunk and a little clumsy. Ruby poured years of pent-up feelings into the kiss, letting them sweep her away as her dream was finally fulfilled after so long. Ruby’s hands pawed blindly at Weiss, running up and down her back and slipping under her clothes to feel her cool skin. A throaty moan hummed in Weiss’ throat into Ruby’s mouth as they kissed greedily.
After a little while they broke apart, breathing heavily. Breaking into a wide grin, Weiss leaned in to rest her forehead against Ruby’s, gazing into her eyes.
“Wow. That was just… wow,” Ruby sighed, shivering underneath Weiss as one of her hands started to trace aimless patterns over her bare stomach.
“Agreed.” Weiss bit her lip. “I don’t know why we didn’t do this sooner.”
“We’d better make up for lost time then,” Ruby laughed, pressing further into Weiss. A slow burning heat started growing in the bottom of her stomach while they were kissing, and it was making itself known to more than just her.
“Mmmm, we definitely should.” Leaning back, Weiss sat down in Ruby’s lap, a grin spreading across her face as she pressed down against Ruby’s member through her sweats. “Feels like someone’s eager to get started.”
“I can’t help it,” Ruby whined, grinding against Weiss. “You’re so hot.”
“Do you want to see more of me?” Weiss teased, playing with the hem of her jumper.
“More than anything.”
“Good.” Grinning, Weiss pulled off her jumper and undershirt in one motion and tossed them aside, leaving her in just her bra. Weiss’ milky white skin was tinged with pink as though she was blushing with her whole body. It was so smooth, flawless, that Ruby wanted to run her hands over every inch.
“Weiss, you’re so…” Words failed Ruby as her fingers traced their way over Weiss’ taut stomach, making their way up to her bra.
“‘So…’ what?” Weiss teased, placing her hands over Ruby’s and guiding her. “Use your words, Ruby.”
“There aren’t any,” Ruby whispered reverently. “Nothing I say could ever do you justice.”
“Such a flatterer.” Weiss giggled, pulling Ruby’s hands up to cup her breasts. “I wish I’d been more prepared for this. I should have worn that new lingerie I bought instead of this plain old thing.”
“You’d look gorgeous in anything, everything, and nothing,” Ruby said. She squeezed gently, eliciting a soft moan from Weiss as she pressed further into Ruby’s lap.
“Pretty words like those will get you everywhere.” Reaching back, she unhooked her bra. She let it hang from her shoulders for a moment, supported only by Ruby’s hands and a single strap, before discarding it entirely.
Ruby couldn’t take her hands or eyes away from the ethereal sight before her. She still wasn’t entirely convinced that this wasn’t all just a wine-induced fantasy. Weiss was so soft beneath her hands, and she moaned beautifully when Ruby massaged and played with her. Shifting her fingers, Ruby trapped Weiss’ erect nipples between them, carefully tugging and teasing them.
“Ruby! Ah!” Weiss’ sweet moans reached a fresh pitch as she squirmed in place. “I’m sensitive there.”
“Sounds like a good reason for me to continue,” Ruby chuckled. With practised motions, she continued to tweak and pull at the sensitive buds, rolling them between her fingers and drawing out fresh whines from Weiss.
“Don’t stop, please don’t stop,” she whimpered, shuddering and gasping.
“Yes, ma’am.” Making Weiss come apart for her with just a little touching and squeezing was greater than Ruby could have ever imagined. It was exhilarating to see the usually so put together Weiss mewling so needily.
Eventually, she slowed down to let Weiss recover a little. The noise she made as Ruby stopped was somewhere between a sigh of relief and a groan of disappointment.
“We don’t want you to finish just from a little caressing, do we?” Ruby asked with faux innocence. “Surely there’s plenty more you want to do.”
“There is,” Weiss panted, recovering quickly. “And first on the list is evening things up a little.”
“What do you mean?”
“You seem to have me at something of a disadvantage, clotheswise.” Leaning down, Weiss tugged at Ruby’s bra. “Is it really fair that I’m here exposing myself to you when you’re not doing the same?”
“You’re right. We need to fix that immediately.” Lifting herself up from the couch, Ruby pulled off the offending item of clothing and discarded it to join the growing pile. For a brief moment, Ruby worried that this might be a sticking point for Weiss, the point where it was completely unavoidable that she was with a girl.
“Beautiful,” Weiss breathed, her voice catching in her throat. “You’re just so beautiful.”
“Are you alright, Weiss?” Ruby asked, as she noticed Weiss’ eyes were getting teary.
“I am. I am,” she reassured her, swallowing hard. “I just… I can’t believe I never noticed it before now.” Leaning in, she brushed a few locks of Ruby’s hair aside. Her fingers ran over Ruby’s cheek, grazing her neck then dragging down to caress her breast.
Ruby’s breath hitched as Weiss cupped her, gently squeezing her. She was so beautiful, hovering above her as she experimentally played with her.
“I wish I’d seen it before. We could have been doing this for ages.”
“We’re together now, aren’t we?” Ruby smiled softly up at Weiss. Reaching up, she wrapped her arms around her neck and pulled her down. “That’s all that matters.”
Returning the smile, Weiss closed the last bit of distance between them to press another kiss to Ruby’s lips. Her hands never left Ruby’s skin as they kissed long and deep. With her hands resting on the back of Weiss’ neck, Ruby blindly slid her fingers up to tangle into her hair until she found her hair tie.
With a small tug, it came loose and set Weiss’ hair free, leaving it to cascade around their faces.
“I always thought you looked amazing with your hair down,” she cooed in between kisses. “It’s gorgeous. So silky and pretty, just like the rest of you.”
“You say this like yours isn’t just as pretty.” Weiss replied, a hand leaving Ruby’s chest to card through her hair. “I’d never be brave enough to dye my hair like you do.”
“You’re gorgeous just the way you are.” Ruby pressed kiss after kiss to Weiss’ lips. It was pure bliss as Ruby wrapped her arms back around Weiss’ shoulders, pulling her even closer until their chests touched.
Weiss’ breasts were so soft against her own. Her skin was smooth and cool, and Ruby couldn’t help but press even closer to her as they continued. It didn’t matter that the couch was uncomfortable and lumpy beneath her back. Weiss’ body flush against her own was more than worth the mild discomfort.
“Weiss…” Ruby murmured, gazing adoringly up into Weiss’ eyes. “Should we… you know?”
“What?” Weiss grinned sweetly down at her.
“Move to the bedroom?”
Weiss’ breath hitched in her throat and she ground imperceptibly harder against the growing bulge in Ruby’s sweatpants. The tip of her tongue slipped out of her mouth to trace it over her lips.
“That sounds good…” She hummed thoughtfully, still pressing down into Ruby’s lap. “But that would only delay things even more, and I don’t want to wait a second longer to be with you.”
Ruby’s heart skipped a beat as Weiss straightened up. Her ivory white hair framed her face as she lifted off Ruby’s lap. She fumbled a little with her jeans, giggling a little as she nearly overbalanced in her efforts to disrobe. After a little struggle, she was able to toss her jeans across the room, leaving her in just her white panties. Ruby let out a whine of need, bucking up against Weiss.
“Please, Weiss,” she moaned, reaching down to pull down her sweats. “I need you.”
“Let me, Ruby.” Weiss stopped her, placing her hands over Ruby’s own to halt their progress. She slipped down Ruby’s legs, fingers tugging at the elastic waistband and pulling the sweatpants with her.
Ruby watched with bated breath, lifting herself up on her elbows for a better view as Weiss finished removing her sweats and tossed them aside. Left in just her boxers, Ruby bit her lip as Weiss crawled back up her legs, bringing her face close to the tented fabric.
“Are you ready, Ruby?” She purred, fingers dancing up to tug at the waistband of Ruby’s boxers.
“Yes. Oh God, yes.” Ruby moaned, trembling with anticipation. With a sultry grin, Weiss wasted no time in freeing Ruby’s throbbing length. Her eyes widened a little as she discarded the boxers and leaned in.
“Do you want me to taste you, Ruby?”
“Please, Weiss. Please,” Ruby begged, fighting the urge to take charge and guide Weiss’ head down. Giggling at her neediness, Weiss closed the last little distance between them, licking a long stripe up her shaft. Ruby didn’t even try to pretend that it wasn’t the best feeling in the world, having Weiss licking her cock and peppering it with kisses.
All too soon however, Weiss pulled back and started to shimmy her way up Ruby’s body once more.
“Weiss?”
“I know you were loving that, Ruby,” Weiss explained as she settled into position, hovering over Ruby’s erect length. “But I need you inside me now. No more waiting. Can’t you see how wet I am for you?”
Ruby nodded. She definitely could, the dampness on Weiss’ panties had only grown and she let out a hiss of want as Weiss hooked a finger in them and pulled the sodden fabric aside to expose herself.
“I’m not dreaming, am I?” Ruby asked, eyes fixed on the cleft between Weiss’ legs. “I didn’t get drunk and pass out and start having the most amazing wet dream?”
“No, you dolt. You’re not dreaming. Though this does feel like a dream come true,” Weiss murmured, slowly lowering herself until the head of Ruby’s cock nestled between her outer lips. Ruby moaned as Weiss’ warmth enveloped just the tip and she was forced to hold herself back. She wanted to savour the moment. There was so much that Ruby wanted to do with Weiss, but she also wanted their first time to be special.
“Ruby…” Weiss sighed softly as she held herself in place, trembling a little. “I can feel you.”
“I feel you too, Weiss.”
With a moan, she lowered herself further onto Ruby’s length. Ruby joined her, keening quietly as she slid into Weiss’ warmth.
After a blissful eternity, Ruby bottomed out, Weiss coming to rest on her lap. They stayed like that for a moment as Ruby let herself fall flat on the couch, looking up at Weiss. She was positively radiant, her eyes half-closed and her bottom lip snagged between her teeth. She stayed perfectly still as they basked in finally connecting on this primal level.
“You’re so big, Ruby,” Weiss said. “And you feel so good inside me.”
“You feel great too, Weiss,” Ruby whispered back. Reaching out, Ruby took Weiss’ hands, tangling their fingers together and holding her tight. “Can you start moving again?”
Weiss nodded and with a slow, deliberate motion, she lifted herself up off Ruby’s lap. She clung tight to Ruby as she rose up until just the head was left inside, then she dropped back down at the same measured pace.
Ruby gritted her teeth, fighting the urge to thrust up into Weiss as she bobbed up and down in her lap. Gradually their pace picked up, and soon Weiss was bouncing up and down with enough force for the slap of her ass against Ruby’s thighs to be audible.
“Oh fuck, Ruby! You’re so much better than Neptune ever was,” Weiss gasped. Most of her weight was supported by Ruby’s hands as she leaned over her and kept up her now rapid pace.
“You sure know how to flatter a girl,” Ruby preened. Her hips canted up to meet Weiss as she descended, adding to the intensity of it all. A part of Ruby was still in disbelief that this was really happening, that her crush on Weiss was not only being reciprocated but consummated.
“It’s already the best sex I’ve ever had,” Weiss declared, slamming her hips down with a lot of force now. “Fuck, I think I’m going to cum already.”
“Me too,” Ruby groaned. She’d been holding back for Weiss, resisting her quickly-building climax. With Weiss getting close though, she wanted to let go and fall into bliss with the girl she’d loved for so many years.
“Please, I want you to cum inside me. It’s safe,” Weiss reassured her as they reached a fever pitch. “Please, Ruby.”
“Anything for you, Weiss.” Ruby’s hands left Weiss’ to hold onto her hips. Grasping her in a tight grip, Ruby started to thrust up into her in earnest, using the leverage to pound into her with everything that she could muster.
Weiss’ words devolved into a blissful babble interspersed with squeals of ecstasy as the two of them hurtled towards their climax.
“I’m cumming!” Ruby cried out, slamming as deep as she could into Weiss and holding herself there. At the same time, every muscle in Weiss’ body seized up and she let out a rapturous cry.
The two of them stayed like that for what felt like an eternity, before they finally started to drift down from their high. Weiss’ tense muscles relaxed and with a luxurious moan, she collapsed forward to lie on Ruby’s chest, her face nestled in her cleavage.
“How was that, Weiss?” Ruby asked, her voice a little raspy.
“Good. So very, very good,” Weiss replied, nuzzling deeper into Ruby’s chest. Releasing her hold on Weiss’ hips, Ruby wrapped her arms around Weiss’ back to pull her into a tight hug.
“I’m glad. I’d hate for your first lesbian experience to be a disappointment,” she murmured, her fingers carding through Weiss’ hair, idly detangling it.
“I don’t think you could ever disappoint me, Ruby.” Weiss let out a satisfied sigh before looking up at her. “Thank you, Ruby. For looking after me this morning. For doing an Anti-Valentine’s Day with me. And for this.”
“I think we might have failed at Anti-Valentine’s Day,” Ruby laughed, stroking lazy circles on Weiss’ skin.
“And I don’t regret it one bit.” Weiss pressed a dainty kiss to Ruby’s flushed skin. “I love you Ruby Rose.”
“I love you too, Weiss Schnee.” Leaning down, Ruby met Weiss’ lips in a sweet kiss as they continued to cuddle, lying on the couch as the movie they’d forgotten about finally came to an end. “Happy Valentine’s Day.”
