Summary
Hiccup had not truly expected to survive the battle against the Red Death. He wakes up, down a leg, but having finally ended the war between the Vikings and the dragons. However, his feat of bravery comes with more responsibilities than expected when he not only has to care for his newfound flock of dragons, but find some way to integrate them into a village full of stubborn Vikings. At least he has his best friend, and other half, by his side. Together he knows they will be able to take on whatever comes their way.

Summary
Hiccup and Toothless have fully recovered from the battle with the Red Death and are settling into their new role as Queen of the Berk dragons. They are ready to lead their flock into a new age of peace with the Vikings. However, it quickly becomes apparent that not everyone in the village shares their peaceful vision of the future. The two will need to navigate a stream of misunderstandings between dragon and human, a stubborn elder that refuses to believe peace with dragons is possible and the possibility of conflict brewing with other tribes.

Summary
Stoick the Vast, under the advisement of his best friend, had intended to allow his son into dragon training with the other kids his age, but he allowed his son to speak first and decided to honor his wishes. Hiccup would not fight dragons, and as a result, fate moved slightly to the left.
Hiccup would not use what he learned while befriending Toothless to move up the ranks in dragon training and gain the attention of the entire village and the ire of Astrid. Instead, he would slowly fade into the background until no one even realized when he was missing from the village for days or even weeks at a time.
Most importantly, his connection to dragons wouldn't be exposed to the world for quite some time.
Which worked out for him and Toothless as the two had a growing flock to protect and rule as the draconic Kings of the Wilderwest.

"Exile still seems the best option, Stoick..."
Stoick should have known better. While he didn't know much about his son-especially now-he knew the boy was clever. It should have been no surprise when a guard burst into the Council Meeting and revealed that Hiccup had escaped the cell Stoick put him in...hours after the boy was revealed to have saddled a dragon.
Hiccup is gone, and so is the beast.
They search, but do not find him. Berk falls asleep one night and awakens in the Great Hall, where the torches come to life and cast an image of their isle on the wall, from which floats Hiccup's voice, years younger.
AKA, Hiccup forfeited the final challenge, leaving Astrid with the right to kill the Nightmare. Story picks up in the Race to the Edge era, except Berk never learned the truth of dragons, no one knows how Hiccup really lost his leg, and stories of a hooded 'vigilante' riding a Night Fury have been long whispered...and Berk will see it all unfold.
