Harry is removed from the Dursley family when he is eight years old, and enters the wizarding world a few years younger and a lot wiser. He discovers a surprising dark heritage, and develops goals that do not involve vanquishing a certain Dark Lord or becoming the Chosen One. Adopted into the Black family, Harry will fight against the expectation that he is to defeat the Dark Lord and instead dedicates himself to protecting the dark legacy that has been left to him.

But he's not alone. Because as it turns out, he's not the only one that's come back.

It turned into a series rewrite.
Here's book four.
Features: a Harry Potter that has a bad feeling about this one, an Oliver Wood who's just heard of this new show called Friends and he's about to make that everyone else's problem, a Tom Riddle that has a REALLY bad feeling about this one, a Draco Malfoy that has done really pretty admirably not being dragged into the narrative for the last couple books if you really think about it, and both Sirius and Remus who are just. They're doing their best, they really are.

Sirius had bad memories of Grimmauld Place, tainted by his own less than stellar family. But for Harry, whose summers had previously involved being locked away either in a cupboard or Dudley's second room--with bars on the windows, no less--it was perfect.

With Sirius free from Azkaban and taking up his role as Harry's guardian, Voldemort pursuing a political path to power rather than bloodshed, and a defense teacher that isn't actively trying to kill him for once, Harry has high hopes for his third year at Hogwarts. It'll be nice to sit back and be a kid for once.Only Harry's life is never so simple, and he soon finds himself facing a myriad of new challenges: school bullies and new family dynamics, horcruxes all but falling into his lap, his deja-vu brain giving him mixed signals, and hidden murmurs arising from old Death Eater circles that may pose a threat to him regardless of his tentative alliance with Voldemort. Features: pretty much everyone having a horrible year. Really, I'm trying to think of someone who has a good year and I can't think of ONE.
Also features: Harry Potter discovering teenage rebellion (and Merlin capitalizing on that fact); Remus Lupin being the best damn DADA Professor Hogwarts has ever seen; Ron Weasley living in the state we call denial and making it everyone else's problem; Hermione Granger planning a murder; Sirius Black, who just wanted to kill ONE RAT, how has it spiraled this badly; a catastrophic miscommunication; Tom Riddle trying to keep his idiot relative alive (it should not be as hard as it is but here we are); and a Theodore Nott that's- well. You'll see.
(Alternative title: Draco Malfoy and the Almost Entirely Off-Screen Adventure, Except For When He Wants to Bother Harry)

This fic will span over many years, following the Marauders through all seven of their Hogwarts years and into the subsequent three years of the First War, concluding with the events of Halloween 1981. The main focus will be on Remus, Sirius, James, and Regulus w/ most chapters told from one of their POVs. It's pretty slowburn and also looks like it's going to be pretty long, we're talking 100+ chapters.
It will have a canon compliant ending in the sense that James and Lily will die, Sirius will go to Azkaban as the traitor, Pete will betray them, etc. The only difference is that I'm shuffling around what happens during the First War (those three years between their graduation and Halloween 1981) and veering away from canon here with my own version of events, of which the biggest difference will be what happens with Regulus.
Jily is *technically* endgame but we get as close to it not being towards the end that it almost might not be? I can't say much more without spoiling it but this will remain primarily a jegulus (and wolfstar ofc) fic! Jily is the secondary ship to these.

Alliances will be tested, lines will be drawn, and Hogwarts is beginning to feel like a battlefield more than a school.
Which, in Harry’s opinion, is perfectly brill.
