Rlain, the former Listener spy, is nominated by them to act as their envoy to the Alethi. Meanwhile, the Alethi highprinces take their chance to punish Dalinar Kholin by forcing his younger son into the betrothal. What happens next is complicated by a lack of knowledge on both sides, Rlain and Renarin's growing feelings towards each other, and a certain scheming highprince.
