He sometimes had the occasional, very vivid dream wherein he traveled to strange worlds and had bizarre adventures. This may well be one of them, if only for the irony. Given the possibility that every lucid dream is actually long-range astral projection or parallel incarnation, he had no qualms about treating this world as real. Of course, he could also be wrong. Wouldn't that be something? If nothing else, though, his new family won't take quite the same amount of work to salvage as his previous one.

This is really beyond fantastic.
It’s easily a 9/10,
but can’t go higher because I find that there’s some fundamental stylistic choices I don’t love. The one thing that’s really missing from this story are stakes.
We have all these interesting characters with creative world building just for the consequence of these chapters to be… not much? They just culminate in being a side character. There’s very little payoff.
