It was a puzzling mystery, and one that had become absolutely endearing to James over the years. Maybe he had spent so much time lying to Matthew and feigning interest in his works to encourage him that the overused metaphors, terrible rhymes and poor attempts at copying Oscar Wilde's style had grown on him. Whatever the reason, there was nothing more adorable and charming to him than a Matthew going from the throes of composition to a lukewarm round of applause after another failed reading at the Ruelle.
Matthew is absolutely terrible at writing. James loves every bit of it.

Basically, Alastair gets zapped with light by some not-fae or demon lady, brushes it off just to run into a frightened Lucie, who leads them to Thomas, who is getting his butt kicked by demons... but they're NOT trying to kill him???? That's.... weird. Anyways, something happens, and realizations happen, and they're all scared out of their wits, it gets kinda spooky bro I didn't know I could be spooky but it's spooky (and slightly creepy, whoops), and we figure out what torture befalls the lovely characters of the Last Hours :D
