Merlin moved to Camelot as a child with his mother to escape being hunted in Ealodr. On his first night he bumps into an arrogant, pompous, no good golden prince who threatens him with a sword. When Uther pulls him away and bans Merlin from ever coming near his son again, Merlin knows they are destined to be friends.
The boys keep their friendship hidden from the public and grow up together, learning from each other in ways no one else could understand. It was all running smoothly… until Merlin had to save his life using magic, and accidentally cementing his place as Arthur’s manservant. Now the boys have to hide that they even know each other, Merlin’s magic, and any other feelings that may get in the way as they try to guide Camelot into a golden age.OR
Merlin and Arthur meet as boys and grow up together as mates secretly. Eventually Arthur realises that feeling the way he does about Merlin isn’t how a friend should feel and Merlin is obviously clueless. They’re both clumsy idiots and apparently, stupid boys.

All the bandits were either knocked out, bleeding to death or dead, save for one who glared at them.
“Are we questioning this one, Sire?” asked Leon and Arthur shook his head with a tired sigh.
“Questioning didn’t work with the other mercenaries. Morgause probably put the fear of god into them.” The bandit leered at them. “I wish one would crack and we could get their hideout.”
“We can,” said Morgana brightly and sat down eye-to-eye with the bandit. The knights frowned but looked to Arthur for guidance, who let out a long-suffering sigh.
“What are you doing?”
“Breaking him,” she said, shooting him a sly grin. She held out a hand and Gwen handed her the tarot deck. “Right, you can either tell me willingly or I can find out.” Morgana smiled sweetly and gestured for Arthur and Merlin to come closer. The knights craned their neck with interest to hear the bandit’s answer.
“As if,” spat the bandit. Morgana nodded and began shuffling her deck.
“Let me show you what I can do and then we’ll see if I’ve changed your mind.”
Or 5 times Morgana uses Tarot cards to save Camelot and one time Tarot saves her.

He couldn't hide the amusement in his voice even if he wanted to, he recalls the coincidental conversation he and Arthur had earlier, he can already imagine Arthur mucking out the stables, the thought of it alone fills Merlin’s heart with gleeful delight.
His counterpart scoffs looking at his own Arthur with a bemused smile, “believe me, I can’t imagine him being a prince let alone the Prince of Camelot”

Merlin didn't do dates, he didn't have the time (Uni was killing him slowly), or the money (again, Uni wanted him dead, even if he was a scholarship kid, Merlin swears the cookies in the café opposite his building must have legitimate crack in them). The man beside him had obviously overheard his comment as he snorted quietly to himself, causing Merlin to glance curiously in his direction.
"Sorry," The man said, offering Merlin a wry smile, "It's just this wasn't exactly how I imagined I'd be spending my Christmas either".
"Really? This is exactly how I pictured mine, bloody nosed stranger and all," Merlin quipped, eyes sparkling with bemusment.
