“Actually,” Lucius says, “I might have an idea about what we can be to make the English navy run away, and we definitely don’t need to look or act like gentlemen about it.”
Faced with the English navy, Stede and his crew decide there's only one way to get Nigel Badminton and his officers to leave as quickly as possible: Pretend they're a polycule who love each other very much.
But when Hornberry decides to join the Revenge crew, Stede and crew have to keep up the pretence for longer.
And then Blackbeard learns about the Polyamorous Pirate and wants a meeting.

Ed has a strict “no kids” rule and he will not break it for anyone, as brave or passionate as they might be.
“Izzy!” He says. The man straightens up and so does the kid. “Put her on a boat with water for a few days. That should be enough to get her to some port.”
He expects anger or pleading from the kid, but instead she looks… hurt, almost. Maybe disappointed. The men start pulling the ropes that bind her to move her along, and she stands her ground surprisingly well for someone so light Ed could probably lift her with one hand. Her eyes feel like they’re boring holes in his skull and so he decides to turn away and head back to his quarters.
Maybe, if he was younger, or if he’d slept more, or if he had gotten to put that oil on his knee, he would have walked faster and wouldn’t have heard the girl’s next words. However, as it is, he doesn’t and therefore he does hear them. And when he does he stops dead in his tracks.
“White Magpie sends his regards.”
