Freddy didn’t believe in love at first sight until he lived it.
Before he’d told that fucking commode story, all he could think about was how if he fucked up for even a second, he would die between one blink and the next. Joe Cabot already didn’t suffer fools gladly but he was a shoot first, ask questions never type if he thought a guy wasn’t on the level. Freddy had one chance and he’d known it.
But in the end it wasn’t hard at all. He’d kept his head and used his training, made sure to keep moving eye contact between all the guys, not giving in to the temptation to riff on a theme, but deep down he’d delivered the whole thing to the guy sitting to Joe’s left, who was wearing a shirt with a pattern he couldn’t see properly in the low light and who laughed at everything Freddy said like it was actually funny. He’d been the best audience Freddy had ever had.
“He’ll be working with you,” Joe had said to the guy, and the guy had looked Freddy up and down and smiled.
Freddy and Larry rob banks, share clothes, watch movies, and fuck around and find out.
