Summary
JD has disappeared from the face of the planet, presumably dead, and Veronica finds out that the pill failed. She tries to build a normal(ish) life for herself and her daughter, Megan Sawyer.
Megan shouldn't be able to see the ghosts that her mother has accumulated. But whether Veronica likes it or not, she does. Megan grows up under the watchful eyes of three dead teenagers. Surely that's perfectly good and normal for a child's development, right?
As Megan approaches adulthood, things come to a head in what is ultimately a battle for her soul.

Head still pounding, she moves just a fraction and finally finds her daughter sitting on the side of the bed, her brown eyes wide. Lily's hand sits firmly on her shoulder, fingers grazing the back of her neck.
Part of her wants to lean into her daughter’s touch and let herself be pulled back down. The other part is so full of shame she wants to scream.
Minutes pass by in silence, punctuated by Veronica’s laboured breaths and the city outside. Lily doesn’t so much as blink while she waits, just tightens the hand on her shoulder and, after a brief moment, pulls her into a hug.
“I’ve got you,” she whispers. “I’ve got you, it’s okay.”
