Bhaal's flesh given life was left to be raised outside of his following. An old but well cared for journal holds some answers to Bhaal's favoured childs life before he was claimed by The Lord of Murder.
Before The Dark Urge took his place as Bhaal's curved blade on Toril, he was a child still untouched by his bloody birthright.

Summary
Mr. Gortash is the best rum runner in NYC, and his Black Hand Club is home to a brutal fighting ring, among other vices. A mysterious new fighter with a reputation for extreme violence turns up one night to dominate in the ring with terrifying ferocity.
When Mr. Gortash decides to try to harness the violence in his new acquaintance, he discovers that associating with a true maniac has some surprising benefits, including being able to feel like less of a deviant in comparison, but also some serious pitfalls, like having invited an unpredictable devil into one’s life.
The two men develop an exciting but forbidden interest in one another, and opportunities to act on it present themselves. Enver cannot resist indulging in this hidden part of his personality. However, asking a lunatic for discretion is tricky, and Enver must balance hiding his proclivities while appeasing his new, unpredictable lover as everything threatens to fall into disaster.Bookmarked by 0hmo

Summary
'What would the former Archduke Gortash be doing planting duskwood saplings in a public park?,' the former Archduke Gortash said instead. He had, in fact, just spent the past four hours planting duskwood saplings in a public park. 'Don't be ridiculous. It is merely a passing resemblance, and one I am not too fond of, given the circumstances.'
'Huh,' the man said. 'I suppose that does make sense: you poor fucker! Besides, they wouldn't let a dangerous madman like that back on the streets.'
'Yes, you would think so, wouldn't you,' Gortash said, mostly to himself.
