A peppermint clatters between his teeth. Totally lackadaisical. "Chimeras outta the harbor, chemicals outta the water. Simple as that." And Lucas hums, softly. As if there ain't nothin' bein' put to rest, on these rusted shores.
All the while, a lonesome fortress teeters over the Earth's very edge. Shunned by fate itself. With gray waves lapping like hellfire at impenetrable walls.

One freckly hand, shielding her eyes from the worst of the bright. The other, rising to knead his shoulder.
"Aw, don't you worry none, hun. The boys're just playin'." When he mustered a low, dubious hum, she gave him a little shove. Beckoning forth the slightest irresistible hint of a smile. "Hehe. Just horsin' around, y'see?"

When Kumatora glances over, to pass him the already-lukewarm fries, she's lookin' at her brother. Even if she don't quite know it yet. When Lucas returns her fearsome gaze, he thinks of Friday's physics lesson. The one about rogue planets. Ripped from orbit. All their stars thrown outta whack.
They'd shared a lot in common. Hikes, n' songs, n' rebellious midnights. But this was the one and only thing to bear such guillotine dread. Crushed seashells. And clipped sunflower stems. She won't make him relive it. Not for her brazen, selfish, childish sake.
She won't let him.

His eyes join Penny's, lingering on the machine. That which had been the one watching them from afar, not so long ago. Which towered over them, scraping the firmament. Mad glory and liberated mercy incarnate. Now, it lay in a low, mangled, eons-forsaken heap. Draped in the eerie shadow of turned tables.
"But. If there's anything that can stand the test of time? I'd put my money on the crazy crystal tech your mom was working on, down there."
Thus - after one week, two carefree semesters, and an awfully reluctant eternity - the recovery effort begins in earnest.

Claus'll pipe up - wide eye, eager grin - with the most obvious inquiry:
"Y'gotta spill the beans, though, man. Was it really an alien?"
At this, Ness, Paula, Jeff, and Poo exchange a series of shifting glances. And a simmering moment of silence. Shrugging, smirking, terribly cryptic silence...

"You, too, Brutus?" he laments, through crooked teeth. Clutching the Pokeball - and its snagged contraband - in his righteous vicegrip. The empty elevator shaft looms like a chasm.
Rui blinks. Musters up a counfounded grin. "I... I don't reckon that's quite how Caesar meant it."
A sigh. A faint, queasy shudder. "... Whatever," says Wes.
