Sometimes, when surrounded by flatterers dropping empty lines, he’d make a particularly daring comment. And when he did, when he felt his own laugh swell with genuine amusement instead of practiced mirth, he’d turn his gaze to the side, a few inches below his own line of sight, looking for a small scoff or a shake of dark hair or a flutter of too-bright eyes. Instead, he was met with a stiff silver collar and skin far too pink, flushed instead of shadowed and pale, always too pale.
After slipping away from the latest gala, Jayce returns to his elusive partner’s side.

“Maddie said yes,” Sonic said as a greeting, hopping up onto the couch as soon as Shadow patted each individual pillow.
“To the… Costco trip?” Shadow sounded dubious, but that was fine, because Sonic had already gotten him to agree, and all it took was one hundred laps around the house! He’d beaten Shadow by a full seven seconds, and now Shadow was bound to his every whim. Or, at least, he’d agreed to go and see one thing in town that Sonic chose that involved strange humans and possibly snacks.
Sonic nodded eagerly. “You’ll see, it’s a great place.”
Maddie and Sonic take Shadow to Costco.

“What is that doing here?” He tried pulling away from Shadow as he spoke, but Shadow’s grip on Sonic’s arm was unwavering.
“Your distraction,” said Shadow, pulling Sonic over with him.
Suddenly, the dots connected. “Hold on, you want me to…” Sonic waved a useless paw at the seat behind Shadow. “You want me to get on with you?!”
Shadow’s eyes narrowed again, but he didn’t sit upright. The casual air about his rival drove Sonic nuts. “Unless you’d rather waste away in your hovel you call a home,” said Shadow, an edge of tension in his voice.
One sprained ankle, one motorcycle, and one very confusing joyride under the night sky.

And yet she still didn’t expect the latest variable thrown their way in the form of dark fur and a sullen expression and so, so much fear. It was hard to connect the hesitant hedgehog with the adversary described by Knuckles and Tails and even Tom during that first hospital visit after everything. This creature was scared, unused to a gentle touch, expecting harm at every turn even if he hid it well. This was no monster, this was a child.

“We will not tell anyone about this.” Shadow leaned forward as he spoke, jutting a finger at Sonic for emphasis. “You will keep your mouth shut.”
“Technically,” said Sonic, kicking his feet back up onto the coffee table and relishing the heated glare it got from Shadow. “This is your mouth I’ll be keeping shut.” He stretched that very same mouth in a smug smile just to really get under Shadow’s skin. His skin? The whole thing was starting to give Sonic a headache.
Or: Shadow's worst nightmare and a fun, new perspective for Sonic. Who knew Shadow's body would feel so great?

Viktor survives Jinx's attack on Piltover's council, but his memories don't. He wakes up from the attack confused, hurt, with a mind void of memories, and with an extremely distressed (and pretty) counselor fretting over him and claiming he's Viktor's partner.
As he puzzles together the broken fragments of his being and how he fits into the seemingly equally broken world around him, he clings to the tether of his supposed partner, who seems to need Viktor just as much as Viktor needs him.

It’s not as though Viktor doesn’t eat.
Jayce has run through the proof he’s collected many times to assure himself that this is a fact based on evidence and reason— that Vikor does eat— despite Jayce rarely actually seeing him do so. Viktor just has… poor habits. Worrying habits.
Or: Jayce worries about Viktor and does what any normal, good lab partner would do, and dedicates a totally normal and not absurd amount of time and effort to cook for him.
