He almost jumps at the sound as his dog, Lud, barks in surprise. Henryk quickly stands, moving to answer his door, and nearly gapes at the sight.
Magda looks up to him, her bluish lips shaking.
“Oh, little duck,” he says softly, quickly ushering her inside. He corrals her to the chimney side; she’s shaking like a leaf. “Why are you outside?”
“Papa said I was bad,” she quietly answers, and Henryk hisses between his teeth. “Said I had to sleep in the barn until I was good again… but last time I was good only after a week, and I’m so cold, Sir Henryk.”
This is sad. Like really, really sad. Inspired by Shireen Baratheon's death in GOT, just so y'all know. Major Child Death, child abuse and grief.
EDIT: Now with an alternate ending in chap 2, still sad but more bitersweet for the interested.

At the end of the war, with no clear winner and the leaders of both sides dead, Jaskier and Ciri are tired, alone, and less cautious than they really should be. Captured by Fringilla to be used as a sacrifice for a powerful ritual, Ciri realizes something that Fringilla, steeped in dark magic as she is, doesn't: This ritual does not have one caster and two sacrifices, it has three casters.Taking control of the spell Ciri and Jaskier end up decades back in time, in a world changed beyond their imagining. Navigating Redanian court and managing the Lettenhove Viscounty is exhausting unfulfilling work, but it's a price they're willing to pay for a world where Geralt can be happy.
And then Redanian court threatens that happiness directly, and they end up at Kaer Morhen in an effort to keep an eye on the nobles looking to use the Witchers for their own gain. The longer they spend there, the more the entangle themselves with the people who used to be their loved ones, and the harder it is to hold back the fact that they're not exactly who they say they are.
