Summary

sokka tries to take a breath. it hurts to breathe. something cold splashes over his burn, and he tries to open his eyes, but his eyelids are sewn shut like worn rags, lead attached to his lashes and weighing them down. his head feels floaty, his limbs like jelly, and belatedly, he realises that this is the end. He’s going to die, ripped open by fire and surrounded by people he was unable to protect.
he wonders if this was how his mother felt.

Summary
For a secret diplomatic mission, Suki dresses Sokka and Zuko as Kyoshi Warriors, thinking the disguise will keep them safe. It doesn't. They win the fight, but Sokka is injured, and he's not waking up.
Suki and Zuko can't do anything but wait. And avoid talking about the complicated, confusing feelings all three of them have been caught in, after all these months of late night drinking and laughter, escalating dares, and the urgency of the kiss Suki gave Zuko right before she passed out from the pain, leaving Sokka's name in his mouth.
(~4 years after the end of the series, nothing too explicit but references to sexual content and a pretty gnarly TBI.)

Her name is Kya of the Southern Water Tribe. Wife to Hakoda of the Southern Water Tribe. Friend to Bato, Iyek, and Kyu of the Southern Water Tribe. Mother to Sokka and Katara, the last waterbender in the South Pole. Unbeknownst to her captors, Kya has traded her freedom and her dignity for her daughter’s life. Kya has spent five years in six different Fire Nation prisons and eleven different cells. Kya is, presently, at the Boiling Rock prison, which is muggy and uncomfortable and surrounded by a lake of scalding-hot water. Kya highly suspects they’ve forgotten that she’s supposed to be a waterbender.
Kya’s well aware of the situational irony.
