Well, so, here’s the thing about having two competing Avengers teams: the same kind of threats that attract one team tend to attract the other. Meaning—there’s a lot of overlap. A lot of bumped elbows. A lot of short conversations ranging from awkward to curt to “just barely not an all-out brawl.” A lot of Sam Goddamn Shitting Wilson and the stubborn scowl plastered on his face every time he looks at Bucky.

If you ask Natatasha, she’d tell you that this was the only ethical course of action when she popped in two weeks after the battle of New York to see Steve pacing his apartment like a rich girl’s understimulated Belgian Malinois.
Well, metaphorically. In reality, he welcomes her in with a broad Apple Pie Smile that doesn’t quite reach his eyes, gets her a cup of tea and a jar of jam without her having to ask.

Sometimes, James gets this look on his face. Like when he sees Sarah, he’s rediscovering something. It’s the expression of a man who’s forgotten some dire, consequential part of being human, and is just now remembering. It fades into something fond, and grateful, and soft. “You have never made me feel uncomfortable. I’m not entirely convinced you could. I meant it—go ahead and ask. Whatever you want to know.”
Sarah chews on her words for a second. The kettle goes off, which thankfully gives her something to do with her hands. She takes the box from James, sets a bag in the mug, and pours hot water into it. When she goes to hand it back, she pauses and finally says, “You’re really good with the kids.”

Sarah and Bucky have some things in common. They're hardworking, self-sacrificing, and it's been a long, long time since they've had good sex.

Tuesday morning: a video was uploaded to one of the deep web black markets. The footage, shot on those grainy vintage camcorders. But Tim knew that boy in the thumbnail; his eyes had memorized him, the heft and shape and dazzle of him, imprinting like an afterimage.
