Rafe does not consider himself a hero, the knights and princesses far too forgiving and careless with their own lives for him to fully relate. Nor is he a villain, finding their methods and goals distasteful. He just wants to live his own life. Rafe is the protagonist of his own history, and what others make of him is their problem.
(Sometimes the character development shoots past the villainy and reaches heroship again.

Summary
He had been Jack Neil until leaving home to surpass his human limits. He became Jack Hammer - a brutal tool grinding down his opponents- during his fighting experiences, to finally reveal himself a Hanma at what he believed to be the apex, right in front of the monster he had sworn to overthrow.
Jack Neil had not had time for affection and softness. Neither had Jack Hammer. They hadn't been interested in that.

Summary
Sakazuki was born in a normal family, in an ordinary island in the North Blue, in a painfully common village.
He intellectually knew of Pirates and Marines. Evil and good, dark and light. With the pure, uncomplicated lenses most children viewed the world, glasses of misdirection and filtering that their parents put over their eyes to keep the cruelty of life at bay for at least a few years more, a few months, a few days.
The thing about lenses is that they are made of glass, delicate and easily shattered.Sakazuki through the decades: a child that thought nothing in particular of the world; a Marine learning about the seas; a commander faced with difficult decisions; and an Admiral with unflinching strenght, but not an unfeeling heart (in spite of what he might think).

Zoro had never worn anything so richly made before in his life. It smelled of Mihawk, of sandalwood and jasmine and the subtle, masculine scent of the man’s body, his heat, his sweat. He’d found himself stroking the open front of it with his thumb, back and forth against that almost-impossible softness, his heavy mind unable to even comprehend it. Mihawk's amber eyes tracked the movement like a predator tracking the nervous twitching of its prey.
“I'll ruin this,” Zoro warned him. He was too big, too clumsy, too covered in open wounds for something so fine.
“But you'll look exquisite doing it,” Mihawk replied.
A fic exploring what happens when Zoro arrives at Kuraigana at the start of the time skip half-dead from his various injuries, determined to grow stronger before Luffy needs him again.
