Summary
“You, my king, are something else.” Jack sounded so fond, expression turning soft, just for him.
“A pain in your ass, I would presume,” Robby shot back with a mirroring grin.
Jack descended upon him, and Robby yelped, laughing as he rolled with the momentum. They fell off the bed—
And Robby landed hard on his carpet, narrowly missing the nightstand. Jack peeked into the room, coffee in hand and leg on, just about to go take a shower and go to bed. “You good?”
Robby frowned up at the ceiling. The dream was… so vivid. So realistic. Hazy. This was hazy. Dreamlike. It didn’t make sense. Where had the stone walls gone? The bear fur keeping the chill from the floor? Had he hit his head? It did hurt, but not like he had hit it. Was he hallucinating? He didn’t really… recognize where he was. But it was almost Déjà vu-like. Like a past dream, or something.

Summary
[He swallowed again, raising the phone to his ear, squeezing his eyes tight.
It only rang twice before his dad picked up. “Hey, kiddo.”
Even at fifty-four years old, Robby was still his kiddo. Robby choked on a sob. “Hey, abba.”
“Whoa, you okay?”
Robby swallowed, hating how a whimper slipped out. “No. No, I’m not okay. Can you come get me?” He honestly did not trust himself enough to drive at the moment. Not over the bridge and at least half an hour away, probably more with traffic.
“Yeah, of course. Where are you?” There was shuffling on the other end of the line.
Except Robby didn’t know how to answer. He was at the park, but he didn’t want to wait half an hour there for his dad to pick him up. He also wanted a shower and to change. To get the awful day off of him. But he also was afraid to walk home. Was afraid he’d do something dumb.
“Can you pick me up at my apartment? But—but stay on the line?” That would keep him accountable. He couldn’t let something happen to himself if his dad was listening.
“Yeah, kiddo. Half an hour.”]

The Taste of Your Marlboro Menthols by Animal_Arithmetic

Summary
Dr. Alex Karev passed between the railing’s bars and leaned against it, one foot crossed over the other, hands digging in his pockets to pull out a packet of Marlboro menthols and a lighter. Robby watched, a little entranced, as he lit up and took a puff, blowing the smoke out into the dark sky above them. His head lolled a little to look at Robby. “Want one?” he offered. When Robby didn’t answer, he shrugged and shoved the extras back in his jacket pockets, lighter in the right, pack in the left. He took another puff, breathing out, eyes closed as he savored the cigarette.
Robby kind of hated his past self for deciding to quit.
Then Karev looked at him again, startling, as if forgetting he was there. “Oh, shit,” he laughed, sounding almost incredulous. “We crying? Damn.” He used his free hand to palm at his suddenly wet cheeks. “What a shitty shift, huh?”
“Uh, yeah,” said Robby, maybe feeling a little less embarrassed, now that the man was openly crying next to him as he drew in another hit from his cigarette. Robby shuffled back, leaning against the railing with his arms crossed. He brushed away his own tears. “It’s your first day, too,” he remembered.

Summary
It started as a thing of convenience.
Robby had a large house with too much room. And one by one they started moving in. First Jack, when he was diagnosed with cancer. Then Princess, when her boyfriend kicked her out during the lockdown. Then Donnie, when his landlord jacked up the rent during the pandemic.
And they worked well together. Maybe a little too well.

Summary
At eight years old, Frank Langon was dealt a shit hand in life. Dead parents, six foster families in five years, and now cancer on top of it all...
-----
"Did you find a foster?”“No.” Casey glanced through the window into the room. Frank faced away from them, but they could see the gentle rise and fall of his chest. “No one will take him. He’s going to have to stay here for treatment.”
“Can I foster him?” It was out of his mouth before he even realized. Sure, he wanted to ask, but he didn’t want to sound too eager about it. Casey gave him a withering, suspicious glare and he found himself rambling. “I want to. He’s a sweet kid, and I’m a doctor! I’m prepared to take care of him. And I live with my sister who is in school to be a doctor, too. And we have an accessible bathroom already, for after his surgery. My whole house is accessible! Ramps for wheelchairs and all one level. And! It’s a good neighborhood.”
“You got an ulterior motive?” Casey asked, thankfully cutting him off.
Robby hesitated. Her frown hardened and the words spilled out of him, “We clicked. He’s a good kid. I—I wanna adopt him.”
