I don’t belong here, or there.” (With you, or without you.) She breathed in, waiting for her opportunity, her stomach tensing.
His own eyes seemed to come close to the brink, mirroring her, like the real Verso used to when he came to the rescue to the poor crying Alicia when she tripped and fell, like he felt her pain and wanted to absorb it, but this worn copy didn’t break, and while he held her wrist still, he used his other hand to wipe her tears away. He sounded almost like he was begging when he said, “It’s not a lie.”

When the battle with the Paintress goes terribly wrong, help comes from the least likely source: the Masked Woman. Lune is cast back to the beginning to find the truth about the Fracture - and hopefully stop the Paintress and her yearly ritual of death. This puts Lune on a collision course with Verso and his family, before they were cursed with immortality. But the Dessendres have their own secrets, and unraveling them could cost Lune dearly - not just the success and safety of the future, but her own heart as well.
Mostly canon through Act II.
There's only one Paintress.
