Summary
Eddie whirls back on him, “I get it; they were your family first. But I’m the one who is leaving, I’m the one who has to say goodbye. I have to pack up my life, move across the country, and go to a place I hate, and try to make peace with people who have abused me my whole life. I’m the one who is losing all of you, and all they are worried about is protecting and babying you. And I’m fucking doing the same thing. I’m here scared out of my mind, and all I am worried about is you being upset.” Eddie shakes his head. “I’m the one who has to walk away from you,” he said, looking directly at Buck, his voice trembling.
“Eddie…” Buck says, his voice breaking.
“Don’t … Buck don’t…”
“Don’t what, Eddie?”
"Don’t let me leave like this,” Eddie whispers, his voice barely audible. His hand, trembling slightly, reaches out to Buck’s uniformed chest. With a gentle, yet determined motion, he slides his finger between the buttons, tugging Buck closer. Buck's heart races as he instinctively wraps his strong arms around Eddie's tense frame, pulling him into a tight embrace. The two friends find solace in each other, holding on to each other if they were the other's lifeline.

Summary
Eddie was leaving again.
All the paperwork was complete, Buck and Eddie deciding that Buck would look after Eddie’s house whilst he was in El Paso, with Bobby and Athena moving into Buck’s lonely loft. The weeks after Eddie initially told Buck were filled with non stop realtor appointments, with Buck tagging along for most of them, which Eddie was grateful for, even though the realtor kept mistaking them for husbands, which Eddie didn’t really understand. They don’t act like a couple do they? Again Eddie didn’t really know, he only had 2 friends before he met Buck, one of which was Shannon. The other, well he doesn’t like to speak about.

Eddie goes to El Paso to get Chris Back, and finds some stuff out about himself along the way.

Summary
“Why?” Eddie voiced his question.
Buck wasn’t prepared for that. He was prepared for anger at leaving the way he did, and appreciation for bringing his son home. He wasn’t prepared for Eddie to question his motive, and he wasn’t prepared to answer.
“Eddie-” Buck started.
“Why did you do all of that?”
Buck quickly scrambled his mind for an answer that wasn’t ‘because I love you’ and ‘the thought of you leaving made me want to die’, his mind only supplying the other facts of the situation.
