"Wait! Please, can you at least tell me if this train will take me to Grand?”
It was the sheer audacity of the request that stopped him in his tracks. The nerve of this guy. To ruin his afternoon and still expect Astarion to help him find his way around the city.
“Figure it out yourself, google it or use a map like the rest of us!” Astarion was practically sneering at him as he watched the man shuffle along the ground, gathering the remaining scattered groceries.
He at least had the sense to scowl back at him from the floor, hands full of assorted vegetables, “You know, I realise my mistake now after speaking to you.” He paused to open his shopping bag, shoving the remaining items back into it. “You are entirely unpleasant and I’m quite sure now I couldn’t have picked a worse person to ask for anything, let alone directions,” He sounded bitter, his frustration barely concealed behind his words.
“Now you understand it,” Astarion couldn’t hide the smirk on his face. Serves him right, for being so rude, for ruining Astarion’s nicest work shirt, for completely derailing his day. “Now kindly, please fuck off.”

“Why does your blood smell so strange?”
The question startled Gale, who looked up from where he sat cross-legged in front of his tent, organizing his scrolls in preparation for their upcoming “visit” to the goblin camp. He’d given Astarion a wide berth since the revelation of his vampiric condition a few days earlier, so he was surprised to see the pale elf looming over him now, a peculiar expression on his face.
“You know,” Gale offered with a smile, “in my extensive journeys across manifold realms, I do believe that is not a question that I’ve ever been asked before. I honestly can’t decide whether or not I should be offended.”

Of the many side effects Gale has faced as a result of his whole “being physical host to an imminently destructive magical orb” problem, he somehow never anticipated his blood now apparently smelling irresistible to vampires (or at least, one particular vampire) to be one of them.

The vampire's eyes are wide and round, full of amazement. They dart wildly around the sights below, as if trying to see everything at once. The lights of the city reflect upon his face, soft shadows dancing across his elegant features. The very tips of his fangs are visible from his parted lips.
The radiance of the city pales in comparison.

Two months after the brain falls, Baldur's Gate has picked up most of the pieces. The heroes that saved Faerûn have been there through most of it, helping the city get back on its feet. But now it's time to move on. Old lives and families to return to. Gale is going back to his tower in Waterdeep, back to the quiet, back to being alone; or at least, that was the plan. But plans change.
This is a story about falling in love.
