“Don’t you think that it’s about time for Qi-ge and A-Wu to get married?” Fan Changyu asks Xie Zheng, who is wrapped around her and half-asleep after a long, passionate night together.
Her husband cracks open one eye, skeptical. “You want them to get married?”
“Of course!” She gasps, as if astounded that the thought had never crossed his mind. “Why wouldn’t they get married? They’re both handsome men, of age, and decorated commanders in the army. It shouldn’t be difficult at all to find someone to marry them.”

Fan Changyu decides to play matchmaker for her loyal aides and tries to enlist her husband to help in her scheme to get them married. Xie Zheng never expects that when Changyu says "Xie Qi and Xie Wu should get married" she means that the two soldiers should marry eachother.

Summary
As Xie Qi obliviously takes a seat on the bed next to him and begins to remove his boots, Xie Wu fights against the urge that wells up within him to shift just a bit and press their legs together; to absorb some of that heat from Xie Qi’s body into his own, chilled skin.
His nails carve deep imprints into his palms with how tightly his fists are clenched to stop himself from reaching out and tracing the musculature of Xie Qi’s back with his trembling fingertips. He doesn’t dare to move, even just to sit upright, for how blatantly obvious his arousal would become even in the dim light filtering into the room.

Xie Qi and Xie Wu take shelter from a rainstorm at an old inn. There's only one room, one bed, clothes too wet to be wearing, and a lot of bad decisions to be made.

“Alright,” Fan Changyu acquiesces, pushing some stray hairs out of her face with her free hand, “what is your offer then, heir apparent?” The title drips of disrespect, it makes his stomach tighten inexorably with a slap of riveting arousal.
It takes a moment for Sui Yuanqing to gather his punched out breath. “My offer is quite simple,” he promises, offering her another toothy, smug grin, “if you satisfy me tonight I will allow you to leave here unobstructed.”

While Xie Qi normally admires his Lord’s concise nature, there are times that he wishes the mighty Marquis of Wu’an would be a bit more lengthy in his missives.
How difficult could it be to write one more small note? A simple ‘Xie Wu is recovering well’, or ‘Xie Wu is not dying while you’re 500 li away and cannot be at his side’.

The man who stands in the front entryway is nothing like Zhuo Yichen once imagined.
He’s wearing a soft gray turtleneck; a long white scarf drapes down his front on each side, not wrapped around his neck for warmth. His hair falls to the back of his neck, bangs parted in the middle to just touch his cheeks. Thin-rimmed glasses rest on his nose, giving him the look of a respectable, relaxed professor. He has a single earring in one ear that glints as he smiles, warm and disarming; practiced.
He doesn’t look at all like someone that burned their offices down and forced Zhuo Yichen’s brother to leave the profession eight years ago.

Li Lun opens his eyes, hair billowing around him in a gust of wind as leaves fall in a shower to the ground, human form regained. Standing in front of him, waiting with a calm smile, is Zhao Yuanzhou. He looks just the same as always; just as open, just as relaxed.
“There you are,” Zhao Yuanzhou says easily, eyes crinkling in a smile without any hint of judgment or malice. It makes Li Lun’s heart twist in his chest; his newly formed lungs catch. “I need your help,” he says, melodic voice quiet and unbothered. Li Lun stares. What would he come to Li Lun for, after everything?
Zhao Yuanzhou looks at him with a slow smile; raises his arm to rub his fingers against his sleeve. One of the motions he uses when he’s thinking. Li Lun gestures at him, not speaking, to encourage him.
“I can’t seem to remember anything,” Zhao Yuanzhou admits calmly- and all the possibilities rain down on Li Lun like hammer blows.
