Eddie sighs, looking down at the floor, his hands gripping at his knees tightly as if he’s trying to ground himself. “It feels like you are somewhere else, and I have no idea where that is.”
And how do you respond to that, he can’t say he’s wrong, he is somewhere else. That someplace else being a ditch. Actually he thinks it’s more like a ravine. And there Eddie is reaching out; A rope, but he can’t bring himself to grab it, because what if it falls down there with him.

Summary
The thing about old habits is that they die hard.
It’s a cliche saying for a reason.
Trying to break a habit by never letting yourself acknowledge it besides shaming yourself, never works out.
It will always come back, and it will come back screaming. Screaming in every nook and cranny of your life. At work, it is hiding in the supply closet, waiting for you to grab a broom.
At home it’s under the bed, waiting for you to drop your phone and have to bend down to pick it up.
The reality is, if you don’t acknowledge it, it will soon enough acknowledge you.
Or, Buck finally talks to Eddie about his past and how it affects his present.

Summary
For Evan, it was never about the act itself, but the control it brings. Control he lacks in every aspect of his life. He needs it, he denies it and he lets it consume him. It’s like breathing, you don’t think about it, but you do it every day, every second. You only notice it when it's taken away.

Some would say they never saw it coming.
They never saw any signs. He seemed fine. Yeah, he was going through a lot, learning about his brother he never knew he had. His brother who had died when he was only a baby.
And he thinks as he’s sitting on the bridge he always came to as a teen, it’s okay because maybe he never wanted them to see. And isn’t it funny how he always ends up back here, on this bridge, in this town? No matter how far he runs, he ends up back here, looking down at the rapids.
or, Buck gives the people he cares about things to remember him by. Eddie’s terrified.

"Hear me out," Buck said. "Clearly, both of us are sick of dating other people. And we're a good fit, in pretty much every way that matters. So what if we're not in love? We don't need to be in love to be happy together."
Eddie frowned. "So basically, we'd be boyfriends, without benefits?"
"Yes!" Buck snapped his fingers. "Like platonic boyfriends! We'd get all the benefits of a relationship and none of the heartbreak."
And maybe Eddie had finally lost his mind, or maybe it was from all the alcohol clouding his judgment, but the idea of it didn't sound half as crazy as it should have.
