“How do I even make a move?” Steve asked as he paced the floor. He was probably ruining his hair, his hands constantly running through it.
“How would you normally make a move?” Eddie asked as he wrote something down in his notebook, only halfway paying attention to Steve’s panic.
“Normally I’d try to, like, hold a girl’s hand during the movie so it seems innocent, but gives her the idea that I want to touch her.” Steve shook his head. “But I’m not even going to a movie. And I don’t think this dude wants to hold hands.”
Eddie looked up. “So what will this dude want?”

Summary
Eddie reaches around Steve, something weighty settling over his collarbones and draping down his chest, fingers hot against Steve’s nape, lingering longer than Steve thinks they need to before flitting away.
“Perfect,” he murmurs, a little breathy, in Steve’s ear. It sends shivers down Steve’s spine, goosebumps prickling his skin, and when he unfreezes long enough to glance down, Eddie’s necklace is settled around his throat.
It’s a little heavier than he’d expect, all smooth gleaming silver and skin-warmed metal, and Steve can’t figure out if it feels so right because it’s clearly well loved and much higher quality than the 25¢ one Steve had on or if it’s because it’s Eddie’s.

Summary
Steve’s sprawled out on his bed, re-dressed in sweats and a sweatshirt, and he doesn’t mean to stare when he sees Eddie, but he also kind of doesn’t…mean not to, either.
Because Eddie Munson is all big hair and bulky clothes and chains and Steve hasn’t ever really considered what he might be under all that because all that is just Eddie.
“Take a picture,” Eddie snarks, striking a pose that is probably supposed to make him camera ready. “It’ll last longer.”
It startles a laugh out of Steve because it’s unexpected; because Eddie’s cheeks are all rosy from the heat and his curls are already starting to frizz and poof up as they dry and he’s kind of dwarfed by Steve’s clothes even where he isn’t and he looks alive again, even if he doesn’t really look like himself.

Summary
Robin says Eddie's a bull in a china shop, but Steve has seen the moments when Eddie is the most careful; when he's painting miniatures or strumming his guitar, Eddie is capable of stillness– and so Steve takes the clumsiness with a grain of salt. Most of it is bravado, because Eddie can't help but draw attention to himself.
Steve has learned it's a way to make people pay attention to him in a manner that overlooks actually perceiving him.
This way, people don't notice the fine tremor in his hands; or the occasional haunted look in his eyes; or the way he fidgets and self-soothes.
Steve, though-
Steve sees him.

“Thought you might be the, uh, fuck ‘em and leave ‘em type, y’know?”
Munson’s tongue darts out to wet his lips, eyes drifting heatedly along the sprawl of Steve’s body. “Would have to find someone who would want to fuck me first,” he murmurs, and then full body winces when his words catch up to him and drops his head back against the carpet to stare at the ceiling, joint tucked between his lips, hands folded over his stomach.
It takes longer to process in Steve’s fog-addled brain, but when it finally does, he gapes at Munson. “You’re a virgin?”
“Don’t have to fucking broadcast it, Harrington.”
“I could take care of that for you,” Steve blurts, surprising himself maybe even more than he surprises Eddie. Eddie, who chokes on his own spit and jerks upright, curling into himself as he coughs out a lungful of smoke.

“Hey, Eddie?”
“Yeah?”
“Truth or dare?”
Eddie raises an eyebrow at him. “Really?”
Steve shrugs, wrapping his arms around his knees, his legs crossed at the ankles. “Yeah. I mean. We were having fun before the girls ditched us.”
“Fair enough,” Eddie snorts. “Dare, obviously.”
Steve grins in a way that makes Eddie think he was hoping for that to be his answer. Like he already has a dare in mind.
Turns out, he does.
“I dare you to do a body shot off me,” Steve says, casual as ever.
or Eddie’s never done a body shot. Steve dares him to do one off him.

Summary
He lets the guy drag him to the dancefloor, lets him put his hands on his waist after guiding Steve’s arms so they wrap around his neck. They’re pushed against each other by the people moving around them, and Steve’s stomach flip-flops again when their chests and hips press together.
Maybe his plan was a good idea. This does clear some things up.
Turns out Steve is into guys. Huh.
He’s definitely into dancing with someone as tall as he is, and he’s into big hands gripping his waist and the scratch of stubble when they move closer and their cheeks press together.
He’d probably be into kissing this guy, grinding against him, dragging him back to his car for more–
Or at least he would if his mind didn’t keep drifting to someone else– the reason why, after years of blissfully ignoring this part of himself, Steve finally decided to explore it.
Eddie. And Steve’s now confirmed crush on him.

Summary
Eddie regretted every choice he’d made that had brought him to this point. He wasn’t a man prone to regret. Not even the prolonged hospitalization and recurrent nightmares following Vecna had been enough to make him regret meeting and becoming enmeshed with the Party. But this. This was too far. He regretted it now.
Because Steve Harrington was eating a strawberry.
A wanton, juicy strawberry. His nimble fingers gripped the leaves and held the plump, red fruit against his parted lips. Lips stained red with the juice of the lucky fruits before this one. Lips Eddie had never particularly noticed before this very moment. Lips he now needed to feel against his own. Lips he knew he’d never be able to feel against his own.

“You’ll have to forgive me if I don’t believe you, Harrington. Straight boys don’t get off thinking about dick. That’s an indisputable fact of the universe, and a key point in my own personal doctrine.”
And maybe Steve should laugh, shrug, call it a night. He should do that, re-examine all of this when he’s sober.
He doesn’t. Instead, he says, “Try me.”
Eddie lifts himself up on an elbow, turning to his side so that he’s looming over Steve when he says, “Just to confirm…”
Steve nods encouragingly, bolstered by the absence of a dismissive laugh, an awkward change of topic.
“You’re saying that you want me,” Eddie continues, eyes darting between Steve’s, “to talk about fucking a dude. To see if you get hard.”
—
Or; Steve’s pretty sure he could get hard while thinking about gay sex, even though he’s straight. Eddie’s just along for the ride.

“Eddie? Are you okay?” Steve asks, lingering by the entrance, but when there’s no reply, he ventures in further. The trailer isn’t big and he easily finds Eddie in the bathroom, feeling relieved that he doesn’t look hurt, but also confused by the state of him. “Uh, Eddie?”
His voice makes Eddie jump, and with a wince, he picks up a wrench from the floor as if to defend himself before he recognizes Steve. “Jesus Christ, Harrington!” He releases a whoosh of air, lowering the wrench when he realizes he’s not in danger. “How did you get in here?”
“The door was open and I heard–” Steve lets his explanation trail off, his eyes narrowing at Eddie. “What are you doing? Why are you dripping?”

Summary
Steve has been feeling something building in his chest lately every time the other is around, ready to spill over at any moment, and now it seems to have reached its limit. He feels so full of the giddy, light feeling that it’s like his body isn’t big enough to hold it all. It comes pouring out of him in one single question, and the pieces of a puzzle Steve’s been working on for months finally slot into place.
“Can I kiss you?” he asks quietly.

Summary
Eddie stops at the door, wants to see at least one firework go off tonight. It is New Years, after all. He turns around at the right time, sees one of the fuses burn out and send the little rocket off toward the stars. It bursts and makes a kaleidoscope of the night sky, and when Eddie turns to Steve, it’s made a kaleidoscope of his eyes too, the colors reflecting in them like glitter, or maybe like confetti at a concert. It makes Steve look almost magical, on top of ethereal. Lots of pretty adjectives. Eddie will have to write a list of words that fit him.
In which Steve wants a New Year´s kiss (he gets one).

Steve breathed out a laugh as he shut and locked the door, pulling the curtains shut tight across the window. He loved that kid, but sometimes he wished his attitude had simmered down with time. But if he was chill, he wouldn’t be their Dustin.
“What’s the joke?” Eddie asked, lining up the bottles like little soldiers on top of the dresser.
Steve smiled over at him, “Just picturing Dustin’s tantrum when we get home tomorrow instead of tonight.”

It’s Tom’s night out at his book club or sitting in the pub with his research crew, or whatever it is he does on a Tuesday to avoid what he describes as the excruciating experience of sitting through half an hour watching himself. Not that Stu’s complaining, he prefers watching it this way anyway.
