“When Vecna took me… He… No, wait,” Will breathed out shallowly, blinking away the tears that slowly gathered at his eyes, begging to be released. He placed his hand at his chest, counting his breaths. Face red from tears but still losing its colour with every other second of him being lost in his thoughts.
Mike couldn’t wait anymore. He couldn’t look at this torturous scene before his eyes. Damn everyone. He moved to sit closer to Will, grounding him with his touch only for Will to flinch, to look at him wide eyed, for his breath to completely vanish from his lungs.
“It’s okay,” Mike pleaded, attempting to reassure his best friend. “We can stop.”
Will looked at him, eyelashes flattering, a timid smile making its way out. “Thank you Mike,” he smiled fully, ”but I have to share this. Not only for me, but for Holly, for the kids, because this… this..” he wiped another tear that forced its way out. He took one last breath, and with reassuring nods from Joyce and Jonathan, Will breathed out.

Summary
When Max is sent away for a month for advanced out of state hospital treatment, Lucas is left with way too much time and way too many feelings. So when he notices the unresolved tension simmering between Will and Mike, he decides to do something about it. But before he can even process what that truly entails, he’s already knee deep in secrets, feelings, and “friendships” that are a lot more complicated than he signed up for.
OR: What starts as a distraction from missing Max turns into the most complicated plan of Lucas’s life as he shifts from helping Will get over Mike to setting them up together (because he’s the bestest, most supportive friend ever, obviously!)

Their shoulders brushed again, slow and equally savored. The kind of movement you couldn't pretend was an accident.
So Will brushed back, just barely. Testing. Flirting. Mike inhaled softly, the faintest noise escaping him. And then he spoke like he was physically unable to stay silent any longer.
“Will? If… if that boy you like…” he was standing so close that Will could feel the warmth of him against the cold air. “…If you ever wanted to tell him…”
Will felt his breath stop.
“…I think he’d want to know.”

Will’s lungs seize. Shit.
“We’re talking now,” he tries for casual, voice small, hoping it’s enough.
“Not like this,” Mike says. “Real talking.” He swipes at his eyes angrily, pulls away, wraps his arms around his knees. “You used to tell me everything. Even the stuff you didn’t tell Dustin or Lucas. It used to be just… us.”
In which Mike falls apart mid-mission, and for the first time, Will is the one to catch him.
