Summary
Zelda offered an awkward wave at them, and they came to the glass wall. They took off their hockey helmet, revealing blue eyes that were neither friendly nor unfriendly. Tawny hair filtered down around them, twin braids framing his eyes. It was a lean boy, the eyes as blue as the ice that he stood on. He was quite small for a hockey player, but the beat up helmet told Zelda otherwise.
He didn’t speak, however, expanding the awkward silence that Zelda felt surrounding the two of them. To her surprise, he signed:
Hello.
Zelda nodded, “I know sign language. I took it in high school.”
Based on the flicker in his face, Zelda read the wariness on his face immediately. And if someone signed, well, there was a reason. He wasn't deaf, but she knew there were other reasons for that. But she hadn’t encountered any up close, however.
(Or, Link and Zelda meet on an ice rink, and a snow day brings them together.)

The promise of a story excited Zelda. She pulled up one leg to cross over the other, leaning slightly toward Lueberry in interest.
“You know how I talked about people being stolen away over the years?” Lueberry asked, waiting for Zelda to nod in confirmation. “Well, there's one story about all that which is pretty unique. At one point, there was a group of children who went missing, but they ended up coming back! Link was one of the kids in that group.”

Summary
She saw a vague, blurry movement of his hands, and then he turned around and began walking away again. Probably because he saw how she was crying and was kind enough to leave her alone since she chose to do so where no one else was around.
Except she didn’t really want to be alone. She cried because she was.
“Wait.” Perhaps it was selfish to want the only person who wouldn’t ask for an explanation, the only person she knew who couldn’t, but he was kind enough to pause. “You can stay.”
Her blurry vision caught another movement of Link’s hands. Only now did she realize what it was—of course a mute boy would communicate with sign language. Unfortunately, even if her tears didn’t impede her ability to see it clearly, she hadn’t studied it enough to know more than the most basic of signs.
“I don’t know what you said,” Zelda told him. She wiped away the tears again, taking a deep breath to try to calm herself. It seemed she had gotten enough of the tears out that it helped finally. “I hardly know any of that. Maybe I should.”Bookmarked by ColorMeHazelnut
