It’s seven in the morning, and Rumi’s out for a jog on a trail. The day is bright and quiet, aside from the songs of birds and the rustle of leaves; she is never more in her element than when she exists in her own solitude.
“I know you have a crush on Mira and Zoey,” Jinu says as a greeting to Rumi, materializing out of nowhere. Her entire world comes crashing down.
She startles, nearly tripping. What? How the hell could he know that? Did she tell him when she was drunk that night? What else did she confess to? She opens her mouth to deny it, mind numb with panic, but he’s already talking again.
“And I…” he says with a flourish, hand on his chest, “have elected myself to be your wingman.”
