He looks at his hands, where there are smaller, shallow cuts from all sorts of things he’d done. He can feel the bend of his tail, the base with an ache from falling from a tree. His shoulder flexes out, scar under the vest stretched with the bend. His toes and fingers curl, the pads there rough and textured, versus the softer, gentler hands of other trolls.
There’s a stumble of steps, then a presence at his side, hand waving away his attempts to move away. “Lemme help,” Viva offers, slotting herself to his side making grabby hands for something to be given. He hums, handing her the knife to finish chopping – “I know my way around a knife, Mister Safety Boy” – while he goes for the pie pan.
Her hands were rough, calloused. Just like his.
Or: Branch and Viva seem to have little if anything in common. But that’s not quite true.
