  2. Summary

A collection of fics that are all part of the same AU. Does not need to be read in order, they should all work as stand-alones.

The AU - The hermits / life series members are in highschool. That's basically it. Each character's story revolves around a different teenager-typical struggle (except I don't make them all very obvious). I'm also writing all of these based on my own experiences, so try not to think too hard about it.

    -

Of Windows and Childhood Memories - Grumbo ficlet of sorts, sets up their childhood
Stupid Ideas (Might Last Forever) - Majorbeans, Joel is oblivious

    Summary

Lighter & Leitner is not the campus bookstore. Tim Stoker is well aware of that, thank you very much. It sits near enough to campus that one might be mistaken, if they had not yet walked onto campus and witnessed the three story Waterstones directly next to the student affairs building, but Tim has been here for two and a half years, now, working desperately on a neverending PhD, and he knows the little hole in the wall bookshop across the street from his favorite coffee shop isn’t where students are supposed to buy their books.

So why Professor Elias Bouchard has sent him there on an errand with a list of course reserves to request they set aside for students in his upper-level Philosophy course, Tim could not even begin to tell you.

or: grad student Tim is Elias' TA, Jon and Gerard run a used bookshop, and everything is about to go very much to hell in a handbasket

    Summary

The thing is, Jonathan Sims is someone you’d call the police on if you saw him hanging around a school, those frazzled clothes and bags under his eyes, the frantic muttering and thousand-year stare.
Yet there he sits, headteacher of The Magnus Institute for Gifted Young Minds.
The name’s a bit misleading, it is. They’re in a bad part of town. The parents are either terrible or absent, and the kids—
“They’re monsters,” his new and handsome coworker grins, when Martin’s signature on his contract is barely dry. “Absolute monsters. Get too close and you’ll lose some fingers. Or maybe your mind.”
“They’re babies,” is all Martin can feebly manage, in reply, and Tim’s eyes narrow at the fondness in his voice.
    “You’ll learn.”

    Summary

“Do you mind if I sit?”

The man is thin, in an underfed sort of way. He doesn’t look that old, but his hair is streaked with grey, and there are lines of weariness around his eyes. There's something about him that reminds Martha of her late husband.
    _____
While waiting for the nurse to call her into her routine surgical operation, Martha Sims meets a strange, vaguely familiar man.

    Summary

Jon Sims, Barista, has everything he ever wanted: a boring coffee shop managerial position, a quirky friend group of disaffected 20somethings, and a will-they-or-won't-they with the village idiot.

Jon Sims, Barista, does not exist.

Jon Sims the Archivist has everything that doesn't exist: a job at a coffee shop full of horrors that wasn't there yesterday, a tip jar full of worms that seem to follow him, and a heteronormative capitalist future where happiness exists without effort.

Jon Sims is dead. Long live Jon Sims. Long Live The Coffee Shop AU.

    Summary

“He's good for you,” Ren says suddenly, and Mumbo raises an eyebrow.

    “What, Poultry-Man?”

“No,” Ren clarifies, waving one hand as if to dispel the thought. “Grian.”

Mumbo lets out a breath through his nose. The bracelet is doubled over itself, and he rolls it between two fingers. “I thought we had been over this, Ren, we’re not -”

“Not dating, I hear ya,” he finishes, and gives Mumbo a wolfish smile. (It feels a little wane, though maybe that’s his imagination.) “But you could be.”
