“Your boundary,” Kou says aloud. He's coming to some understandings. “It… doesn't listen to your requests? It doesn't do what you want?”
Mitsuba glowers. His hair is sticking up in a way that makes him look almost catlike, as though he's trying to make himself look bigger.
“Fuck you,” he says, but quieter this time. “No, it doesn't. Not most of the time. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, exactly - if I'm not authoritative enough, if there's instructions I'm supposed to be following that no one told me, if it just doesn't like me as much as the last Number Three. I don't know.”
He turns around to glance at his bed, expression tightening. His face is flushed pink with embarrassment.
“I'm kind of afraid of it,” he mutters, so soft Kou almost doesn't catch it.

“Don’t worry about me!” Kou cuts her off. He can’t have her worry, he won’t allow it. He is only in this mess because he went and got himself possessed by the Red House. He can’t have Yashiro blame herself for his own accord. Yashiro is prone to worry, and he understands, but he can’t have her hold the weight of his own actions. He isn’t offended that he was hit. He would do this all over again if it meant he was the one on the other side of the sword. He can disappear knowing that he protected her. That’s enough for him. He is scared, but he puts on a brave face.
Kou smiles wide, showing off his two sharp fangs at the tip of his mouth, “Just think of this as a bad dream.” His eyes don’t meet his smile, but he can’t have their last moments together being a memory of a frown.
