Summary
As Dimitri's shadow Byleth was always there to keep him from harm. It was her job, but she was also the one person Dimitri trusted most in this world. When the Tragedy of Duscur occurred Byleth and her father were at the monastery under Archbishop Rhea's orders. In the days that followed the incident, Dimitri clung to the thought of seeing her again and the promises they made to each other. Even when the memory fades, that hope lingers on.
A few years later Dimitri comes to Garreg Mach Monastery to find out why Byleth isn't answering his summons to come back to Fhirdiad. He finds that Rhea has chosen to ignore his summons and allowed her knights to make Byleth's life hell to get her to sign the contract that will sever her ties with him.
They will come to find that was a very foolish move, and one they may not live long enough to repent for.
