“Oh?” the Lord of the Mountain asked. Grian glared at him. “You don’t seem so badly off to me, Spring.”
The question was in his eyes, because it was the question anyone would ask— is it you that I’m bound to, are you here to gloat before you finish the job—but naturally the noble didn’t verbalize it.
If the Lord of the Mountain was smart, he would assume that Grian wasn’t his oathmate, since a reasonable faerie wouldn’t bother to exchange words if he could bind him and leave. Grian’s actions meant he was looking for a bargain. They implied that the noble had something to offer him.
Which he didn’t. At all. Grian was being so stupid about this.

Scar starts to speak, taking a step forward, but Grian takes a step back, planting his hands on Scar’s shoulders. “It is too rash!” he insists. ”Too unadvised, too sudden. Too like the lightning, which doth cease to be ere one can say, ‘it lightens’.”
Scar says nothing — he has no written line here. But he takes Grian’s hand in his. He holds it, gently, as if it’s something fragile. Grian’s completely blindsided as he feels a pang in his chest. Oh, Scar.
He places his other hand over Scar’s, squeezing it reassuringly. His voice is soft as he finishes his line. “Sweet, good night…”
Aah. This is the part of the scene where Scar and Pearl would’ve. You know.
He sees Scar give an imperceptible nod, eyes locked with his.
Grian is cast as Juliet and Scar is cast as Romeo as they rehearse the balcony scene oh no I wonder what could possibly happen

Grian is busy chaperoning his siblings in a club that he does not want to be in when a very attractive, very handsome, very buff man approaches him and strikes up a conversation.
Grian, needless to say, is interested.
His interest only grows when Scar, said handsome man, brings up a bet between his friend and himself, one that Grian just helped him win. Of course he goes along with him to get the free drinks the friend promised. He wouldn't be Grian if he didn't unnecessarily satisfy his curiosity.

The friends he left back home miss him, Mumbo's college friends (cough, frat bros, cough) keep pestering him, and his new friendship with a certain scarred individual is developing in a way he never expected.
Will he be able to shake off the meddling redstoners? What will happen when there are two potential romances blossoming on either side of him? And will these baristas ever stop texting each other and just make me my goddamn soy-milk capuccino?

Summary
Two hours later, the whistle of rocket-propelled elytra warn him of incoming company. Grian doesn't bother fleeing; he knows Scar, and Scar knows him, and with this last, missing puzzle piece finally slotting into place between them, he's under no illusions that staying hidden for long is feasible. Grian's eyes skitter to a crack on the far wall as clumsy footsteps scatter the snow outside, scrabbling for balance before the muted click of a cane joins them. Footsteps; another, louder click— the door's latch gives way, and a brief, blinding wave of light crashes over Grian's face, obscuring everything but the outline of a painfully familiar silhouette.
Grian has to look away. The door shuts, and for a small moment, neither of them so much as breathe.
Then Scar's sighs— one great, resigned gust. "Grian...."
He says nothing else. He doesn't have to.

It turns out Grian has had feelings for Scar for a while but didn’t know because the watchers modified his code to suppress romantic feelings. Luckily Xisuma notices and fixes his code but now Grian’s being hit with years worth of pent-up pining and, understandably, panics a bit.

Summary
Grian is a grown adult hermit with a stable adult life and mature adult thoughts. That's why it's more than a little embarrassing when he starts coughing up flowers every time he thinks of his best friend Scar. Everybody knows that Hanahaki disease is a teenage thing, right up there with acne, voice crackles and growth spurts. Fixing it is as easy (or as difficult) as resolving your feelings for your crush, but that usually requires actually talking to that person. Grian is bound and determined to do things the hard way.
(Or, the Hanahaki fic where nobody coughs blood, nobody dies, nobody is compelled to love anybody else, and Grian gets teased by all his friends about his crush.)
