Life as a pirate was always hard, everyone was out to kill you or rob you or maim you or just generally fuck you over. Especially other pirates. But before, before Stede Fucking Bonnet, life with Blackbeard was also thrilling. It was the perfect partnership. Blackbeard had the most devout and capable righthand man in all of piracy, and Izzy had... well. He had Blackbeard. He was the only man who had ever stood up for little Izzy Hands and taken care of him and made him feel safe. He accepted Izzy with all his particularities that everyone else had always mocked. Blackbeard would never kill him or rob him or maim him or just generally fuck him over. Until he did. Bonnet's return and the captains' reconciliation doesn't instantly fix the wounds. The Kraken is still there, waiting underneath the surface. Izzy is alone. It was, perhaps, the greatest loss the man had ever suffered.
Maybe Stede's kindness can help Izzy heal and find his way back to Blackbeard.

William Sherlock Scott Holmes failed to graduate the University of Cambridge class of 1877. Adrift in London, he accepts a post as assistant naturalist on a scientific expedition to the Western Pacific Ocean aboard Her Majesty's Sailing Ship Frontier. Events do not proceed quite as planned and Sherlock finds himself cruelly cast away by his shipmates. Perhaps he will find salvation in the company of a most unlikely sea creature.
