Rain clung to him like it couldn’t bear to let go. His shirt stuck to his chest, lamplight sliding over the wet fabric, turning him into something sculpted, almost feverish. His face—sharp and pale, bruised by whatever had shoved him out into the night—wasn’t the kind you forgot. Newt’s eyes kept dragging back to him, no matter how often he told himself not to stare.
Pity or lust—he couldn’t decide which had him hooked. Maybe both. The man looked miserable, but in the Glade’s spotlight, with water slicking his skin and his features carved by shadow… miserable had never looked so bloody compelling.

Summary
They’re about four days into their journey through the Scorch when Thomas notices it.
Newt's leg is giving him trouble.
And that's an issue—just slightly, because Newt is touchy about his leg on a good day, but now, for some reason, he seems absolutely hellbent on avoiding Thomas's help at any cost, even if it means he has to limp around in pain all day.
Thomas doesn't understand, and Newt only gives half-answers, bats him away, until he can't outrun the truth any longer.
They talk about it.
