Summary
In the Year of the Realm 865, nothing happens. It is unremarkable by many metrics, the slow war between Sanbreque and Waloed; Dhalmekia’s attempts at rousing more trade, Kanver forcefully continuing to establish itself. Twinside glitters, as it does, and the blight grows ominously, as it does. Nothing includes a branded imperial solider waking up in the middle of a night, and then vanishing. It is starkly unremarkable. Soldiers go missing and die all the time, of course, especially the branded, who are thrown at the front lines or impossible tasks by their superiors with glee. The soldier is forgotten before the week is over.
In the Year of the Realm 866, Drake's Breath disintegrates in a fiery explosion. It may be related.

Nick Fury will do anything to save his world when the Kaiju come, including recruiting the bad guys. What's one annoying God of Chaos compared to world destroying giant dinosaur monsters? Tony blows the mind of anyone who shares a Jaeger with him, but he's willing to use Loki to get any advantage he can for his robots. Loki just wants to feed his squirrels in peace - but maybe, just a little bit, he needs to find some purpose and once again fight to protect a world, be a hero again, as he was for a thousand years before he found out the truth.

Summary
The Eikons are there to shape humanity along the lines of which Ultima desires. To make them malleable, to remind them of their folly of defying God. Eikons are cursed to live mortal lives, in flesh prisons, free only for the briefest of moments.
Ultima made their Eikons the symbols of its reign, confident that its creations would be obedient to the end.
A shame, then, that Ultima shaped them to guide humanity, to desire their shackles and limits unbound, and abandoned its Eikons. In absence of the divine, where else was one to go? After all, if they were damned, at least then that damnation came with the taste of freedom.

Gav wants to be a good friend, if not more, to Cid. Cid wants to ensure Gav doesn't bite off more than he can chew with a strange Alpha.
