Shane lets out a dignified snort. “Sure.”
“And I take your birthday the most seriously. It is my job as your boyfriend, yeah?”
Shane’s heart squeezes in his chest. “Yeah, okay.”
Ilya smiles, his eyes softening. “Moy lyubimiyy,” he murmurs. “I am going to celebrate you the way you deserve.”

Shane is used to being told he’s impossible to buy a birthday present for. It’s not exactly fun to be reminded of this fact about himself year after year, but he’s come to accept the fact that it’s probably his own fault. After all, what do you give a man who has zero interests outside hockey and keeps his cards close to his chest?
Turns out, his boyfriend might have a few ideas.
(Or, Shane celebrates his birthday with Ilya for the first time since they started dating, and Ilya proves he’s the indisputable king of giving gifts.)
