It's nearly Mensah's birthday. Murderbot has never quite understood why humans make such a big deal out of drawing closer to their inevitable deaths, but it does know that the occasion is important to her.
The problem is, Ratthi, Pin-Lee and Arada had the bright idea to hold her party in a forest in the middle of nowhere down on Preservation. Which means that Murderbot will have to contend with the many and varied dangers that come from being on a planet to make sure it can be pulled off at an acceptably low threat level.
It'll be a lot of work, most of which could've been avoided by holding the event somewhere sensible, like a space station. But that's not the location that Mensah was so delighted by. So perhaps, for her, it's worth the effort.
