Jiang Xiaoshuai is beautiful in the candlelight. He always is, but the flames turn his skin a warm gold that makes Guo Chenyu’s mouth water. The low light makes him seem softer, too. It takes away some of the rough, sharp edges that he always throws up between them.
Perhaps tonight that’s good luck for them both. Guo Chengyu wasn’t born yesterday, after all. It’s not like he can’t see Jiang Xiaoshuai’s nervous fidgeting, his restlessness. “What kind of favour?”
He turned around slightly, his coffee forgotten next to the coffee machine, the rich aroma burning his nose as he met Chengyu’s gaze from so close he could have counted the freckles on his face.
The man chuckled, that smirk ever present on his plush lips. “Any kind.”
Or: med school prepares you for many situations, but it doesn’t really teach you how to react when the handsome and clearly powerful man you just patched up offers you his services in return.

Hayden feels like a complete asshole, all of a sudden. There’s just been too much going on to even think about Shane’s mystery girlfriend. “Shit, I should probably, like, call her, or something? I don’t know this girl at all, but Shane’s been obsessed with her for years. If she was watching the game, she would have seen him get hurt.”
“You don’t need to call her,” Rozanov says, and when Hayden glances at him, he still looks fucking miserable but now he’s rolling his eyes, a much more familiar expression of disdain on his face. “She’s sitting right here.”
