Rozy locked his phone immediately, dropping it face down in his lap. “Mrs. Koskela,” he chirped, surprisingly quick on the draw. “Who else?”
Ilmo grinned. “Joke’s on you. My mother would love you to take her home.”
He earned a twitch of amusement in Rozanov’s face, but the rookie’s eyes remained sharp. “I show her excellent time,” he claimed boastfully, an undercurrent of evaluative caution in his tone.
“Seriously, rook,” Ilmo tried again, lowering his volume a bit, “who’s got you grinning at your phone like that?”
“Is no one. Fuck off, Kozy.”
Or; The Koskela brothers are there to talk Shane and Ilya through managing an MLH rivalry. An MLH affair was more than they thought they were signing up for.

Henry could have reminded him that he didn’t actually have a writ from the king or any local lord allowing him to hunt here, but secretly he loved that in this one way Hans was just as much of an outlaw as the rest of them. No matter how much he claimed special privileges, Trotsky had made it clear that Hans Capon was a mortal man like any other. Even Hans understood that now. So long as he didn’t go boasting about it anymore, Henry would be a hypocrite to tell him off for poaching again.
“That’s right. You owe me,” Henry teased instead. “I believe there were plans for a picnic as well?”
Saying that aloud, and the way Hans’s eyes softened in response, made Henry wonder how long they’d been wooing each other without realizing.

“Bren Ermendrud?” he sputtered, trying to form his mouth around the German name.
“Don’t you remember?” Alicia whispered. “He found us in the kitchens trying to get out. Without him, we both might have died in there.”
Verso clenched his eyes shut. That didn’t sound right. The Ermendruds were Writers, and not even a very powerful house at that. They had come to Paris from Berlin around a decade ago and had been jockeying for power ever since. The Parisian Writer houses had been territorial at first, but in recent years they seemed to have realized that consolidating their power was a more viable strategy to raise their profile against the Painters Guild. All of this meant the Ermendruds were aligned against the Dessendres politically. It wasn’t just unlikely that Bren would pull them out of a burning building, it was much more improbable that he would be near the Dessendre manor in the first place.

“Why did we let Harris rope us into this?” Shane mutters as he fidgets with the unbuttoned collar of the shirt underneath his half zipped jacket, and then fiddles with the first button for a bit. “Should I button it up?”
“If you want to look like a boring accountant, sure,” Ilya replies, taking Shanes’s hands into his own and kissing his knuckles. He looks up at his husband through his lashes, playing coy, and is satisfied to see a dusting of pink on his cheeks as he looks down at their hands. Ilya keeps his lips pressed to Shane’s hand as he says, “We let Harris do this because he is smart and amazing at his job, and because Yuna says it is ‘good for our public image’, makes us seem ‘approachable’.”
There’d been more than ‘seeming approachable’, of course: with the specialized media in a frenzy over Shane leaving the team that drafted him and that he’d captained to not only back-to-back Stanley Cup wins but to a third one just the season prior following his being outed as both gay and being involved in a long-term relationship with Montreal’s public enemy n°1 on top of that, they had needed to do something to control the narrative, to sway the public in their favor.

Scott doesn’t think he wants to be in some secret gay group chat with Hollander and Rozanov, but honestly, it would be kind of nice to speak to guys who got it, like really got it—the pressure to excel, the claustrophobia of locker room culture, the unending scrutiny of the press.
Or, Scott clocks Hollanov at the 2017 All-Stars Weekend, just like he did in 2011, and this time he tries reaching out to connect with Shane.
