Summary
It wasn’t the norm, for an adult to hold onto his or her Belief. In fact, such a thing almost never happened. Most children started to forget, around the end of their preteen years, and the Guardians had learned to accept that. They protected children, after all, not adults. Their strength came from the pure simplicity of a child’s Belief. Adults were too world-weary and skeptical to ever maintain such a thing on their own. It made sense that they would lose so many in the transition between the two.
Ingrid was something of an exception… not because she was special in and of herself, of course, but rather due to an odd series of events.
But one thing inevitably leads to another, and when Ingrid strikes up a fake "deal" with the Boogeyman to help her little sister with her nightmares years later, she doesn't realize that a shred of belief and permission are all the Boogeyman needs.
Belief opens many doors, including ones that probably should have stayed firmly shut.
Starts out cute, fluffy, and a bit slow, but picks up (and grows darker) quickly!

You grab your buy'ce off the counter and snag one of grandpa's knives in a reverse grip, then you go to check out the noise.
There's a body on the stairs.
With all due caution, you lean out a bit and call, “Hello? Are you dead?”
“Mnnggg,” the body replies. Oh good.
“Are you one of the Opress brothers?” you ask.
“Ngh?” they reply, turning to squint blearily up at you.
It's a man, or male looking at least. Horned. Tattooed. Average height and build. Yellow, with a smidge of orange. Hot as fuck, honestly.
“... messare Feral?” you try. That was the youngest one, right?
“Yeah,” he manages, pupils two different sizes. “Fff- nng. You?”
“I'm your new chef, uh, nice to meet you… do you want help getting to medical?”
Probably-Feral flops back down onto the stairs, and mumbles something inaudible with a tone of supreme annoyance.

Make it do something it isn't meant to, L'lo had signed, handing the piece of Allagan technology to Zenos, watching her erstwhile enemy as he studies the thing, turning it this way and that in his hands, looking thoughtful. It had seemed as good a way as any to occupy his terrifying intellect, at least until they find the next ruins with such artifacts... or something to fight that would take longer than a moment to fall to either one of them.
