Then, Clark’s eyes met his, and he pulled away so quickly that the sound of his retreat whipped through the air. His face, for a moment, was startlingly open, and naked grief cracked harshly through his expression like a fist shattering the surface of a frozen lake. Then, it was gone, and the slate was wiped clean as though there had been nothing but a mild smile there since the very beginning.
But Bruce knew what he’d seen.
“How long?” he asked.
Clark’s mouth twisted. “I don’t know why I thought I’d be able to keep it from you,” he said softly. “You know me too well. Was that even five minutes?”
“Clark.”
Clark’s lips turned up into a smile, fracturing his face, his eyes glittering shards of lapis lazuli. “How long for what?” he asked. “For how long we were married? Or for how long it’s been since you died?”

Being universally hated was nothing new for Severus, but the extreme poverty and living outside of society was hard, and each year that passed added to the burden. A strong man can take it, and Severus was strong, however, at the end of the day, even he is only human and cannot live on air and water. For some reason it has been his luck that he has always ended up on the wrong side and this was no different. Only one door was open to him - the sale of narcotic potions and finally Severus entered there. The appearance of Harry Potter, in his life brings big changes, that's for sure. Only whether for better or for worse, that is the question.

Fascinating. Bruce takes a deep breath so he doesn’t scream. He can feel every single piece of shrapnel, bullet fragment, and medical implant in his body trying to move toward the man, inching one millimeter at a time through his flesh.

Jason takes a deep breath in, matching Bruce's unshakeable calmness. It's the first time in a long time that Jason feels like he can actually breathe.

"Why did my parents leave me to you?" Bruce asks, with enough childlike genuinity and confusion that Alfred can't even be offended by the slightly backhanded accusation.
In a way, he can agree with the boy's disbelief. Why had Thomas and Martha Wayne left their darling son to a man who they barely knew in any emotional capacity? Serving them lunch and organising their linen closet is hardly a reason to write him into their wills.
Staring down at Bruce, the butler desperately tries to work out how to explain to an eight year old that his parents might have been insane.
But maybe, the insane one is him.
