Summary
With a conspiracy unearthed behind them and the alliance between the Draconic Courts of Frost and Tide sealed with their Mating, Drake Warden Wriothesley of the Frostdwellers and the Tidefolk Lord Neuvillette now make their way northwards. Spending time together as they travel to nurture their fledgling relationship now that enemies no longer lurk in the shadows.
But the North is harsh in environment and opinion. Traditionalist Frostdwellers do not think kindly of Wriothesley's Tidefolk Mate or a young, idealistic Drake Warden, for that matter. Together, Wriothesley and Neuvillette must face the scrutiny of those who think they do not have what it takes to lead the Frostdwellers. All the while navigating insecurities and fears they hold about their rushed Mating that may weaken the strong, united front they wish to present.

“Do not fret too much,” Neuvillette replies, his tail flicking. “Your end of our bargain, your role as my Champion, will not be called upon until you are fully recovered. I would not send you on any errand until you and your daughter are resettled either.”
“Resettled?”
“I told you, as long as you serve me, neither of you will want for anything,” Neuvillette chuckles, amused. “Did you think you were to remain living in these caverns?"

Summary
“Sybil,” Wriothesley manages to say, lifting an arm weakly to point to his daughter in the creature’s arms. His voice is thin as he pleads, “Her name is Sybil. Please, help her, I’ll do anything. Anything you want, just help her! If this sickness should take me, I beg that you please care for her.”
The creature says nothing and presses a hand to Wriothesley’s chest to make him settle against the moss and furs. Wriothesley goes obediently, too tired to fight the creature or the exhaustion. His eyes fall closed, and he is aware of nothing more.

Summary
After suffering from what the doctors all said were stress-related dreams and hallucinations, Neuvillette goes on forced sabbatical until he could get a favorable medical evaluation that would allow him to return to work. In the meantime, he purchased property in the quiet mountains of the Beryl Region and moved from his condo to the countryside and assured Furina that he would be available for consultation or assistance if needed.
However the quiet sabbatical he had expected, which he had meant to spend fixing up the old house and clearing the old property, turned out to be not as quiet as he expected when he meets the enigmatic Wriothesley. As time passes, he learns that there is more to the area—and Wriothesley in particular—than he first thought. But to address that would mean acknowledging a few too many strange things like ghosts and the echoes of ancient wars and even older gods and mountains built from the bones of ancient creatures.
All of those things were crazy, crazier even than those awful stress dreams that Neuvillette used to have of screaming skies and blood rain. Because there was no such thing as ghosts and ancient gods cursed into human forms…right?

Though it caused something unidentifiable in him to ache like a physical pain, Neuvillette was honored to be allowed to see such a rare, fragile thing. “Because it is better to have him in my life in any capacity,” he said, “than not at all.”

Essek held himself stiffly, his shoulders rising in affront. A dangerous lapse of control, considering the woman standing before him, and one he would berate himself for later in the privacy of his tower, but he couldn’t help it. To be bartered off as—as a diplomatic representative of all things. It was absurd, insulting. Was the prestige his accomplishments brought to the den not enough? The Bright Queen herself had awarded him the title of Shadowhand for the advancements he’d made to the field of dunamancy, advancements that had secured countless victories in the war. Why should he have to upend his entire life to accommodate some human he’d never even met?
