Dustin choked on his soda while El immediately started smacking his back with a worried look on her face. Lucas’ eyebrows were so high on his forehead that they looked like they would launch right off, and Max squinted so hard that there was a deep crease in the bridge of her nose.
“What?” Will finally said.
Mike huffed like he did whenever he was annoyed. “I mean, it just - you keep talking about Lucas’ arms - “
“Lucas’ arms?” Both Will and Max repeated.

“Here, give me your hands,” he says quickly, already holding his own out toward Will. “I’ll warm them.” He looks at Will a second too intensely, like this matters far more than it should. Robin snorts quietly.
“Oh, thanks Mike,” Will says, flustered. “I’m okay, but maybe—” he fumbles with his coat pockets, distracted, searching for something, finally pulling out a pair of blue gloves. “You might need these. You can have mine.”

God, what was he doing? This was so stupid. It wasn’t going to change anything. He knew it wouldn’t. Bill was still going to leave, Richie was still going to leave, and they would probably never see each other again. He should just go back home, go to bed and pretend he hadn’t had the wild urge to confess his longest held secret to his best friend. But the deep ache in his chest at the thought of letting his feelings fade into memory kept his feet rooted to the concrete. So, he took a deep breath, ignored the hammering of his heart, and decided to stay.
Bill was the author, but Richie had read so many of his stories that maybe he could be like the heroes he’d always envied that lived inside them. Maybe, for once, he could take control of his own narrative.

Her dad sighs, leaning back against the bench and placing a hand at her back, glancing apologetically over at Will. “She’s been going through this shy phase,” he says conspiratorially.
Will laughs. “Personally, I’ve been going through a shy phase for almost three decades, so. I get it.”
The guy snorts. “Fair enough.” He peers down at his daughter, who’s still hiding her face in his t-shirt, and smiles a little as he pats the top of her head. “I’m Mike, by the way."In which Will meets a very cute guy, with an even cuter daughter.

His words are accompanied by a casual shrug, and said in the tone of someone who has clearly already given this subject some thought. Will doesn’t know what to do with that information. Mike points to him enthusiastically. “Thank you, Lucas.”
Dustin looks between the two of them, his eyes narrowed.
“...Would we?”
“Sure,” Mike concludes. “He’s attractive. That’s not a weird thing to think.”
Will just barely resists the urge to bang his head against the table. He feels Dustin’s eyes glued to his burning face, and sinks even further down his chair.
In which Mike tells Spider-Man that he has a crush on his best friend, and Will jumps to some very wrong conclusions.
