Kakuzu had already gone through every kind of experience throughout his long life. As an immortal, he had seen both his best and worst days, and he never imagined that, as the years piled on, he’d live moments just as intense as in his youth. It had never been something he worried about—after all, he’d become a grumpy old man—but then why the hell, at ninety-one years old, was he getting himself into a relationship absurdly affectionate by his standards? Complete with words that, in full sanity, he would never say?
(And perhaps the most surprising of all was the fact that he genuinely couldn’t bring himself to care about how ridiculous this fate was.)

When Childe didn’t immediately reply, Zhongli raised his other hand to his chin, eyes falling from Childe's as he thought.
"A time loop," he added, pensive. "It is said that Rex Lapis was caught in one during the Archon War, as one of the other gods hoped to capture him there instead of actively fighting him. Since his prowess in battle far outweighed theirs, they chose instead to curse him into a loop of repeating the same day, over and over."
A tap to his lips with one hand. "He was able to break the loop only by overcoming the regret and the guilt that had locked him there. Finish the unfinished business, as it were."
or: Childe can't fight his way out of heartbreak, and he certainly can't fight his way out of a time loop. Living a day of the worst week in his life over and over (with a heart definitely, absolutely not still aching from Zhongli's little lie) was not in the itinerary for his stay in Liyue.
