Bolts of lightning shoot through Derek’s abdomen. He curls in on himself pitifully, wrapping his shaking arms around himself while he tucks his legs close to his chest. A pained noise escapes his mouth and he winces at himself, embarrassed to voice his distress even to the empty bedroom.
“Derek?”
Um. Not so empty after all. Was he so stuck in his head, in his spasming body, that he failed to hear his anchor approaching from the other room?
“Der, is it happening again?” Stiles’ sympathetic voice comes from right behind him now, and soon warm, sturdy arms wrap around his torso from behind. He feels small all of a sudden, still hunched over himself horizontally on the bed, and Stiles’ familiar sweet cinnamon scent hardly breaks through his haze of pain. His husband’s voice is soft, comforting, compassionate, yet Derek doesn’t want compassion right now. Doesn’t want to be in this body, with this stupid human pain.
