Summary
Wen Ruohan becomes a ghost after his death and is enjoying watching his murderer suffer under his shitty father up until the point he realizes they are genuinely wiping out the Wen clan. Much to his surprise, Wei Wuxian comes to their rescue, creating a debt that will never be repaid. When things go worse at the burial mounds after the ambush at Qiongji Pass, they turn to time travel as the solution and Wen Ruohan inserts himself into the spell with one goal in mind once he wakes up in the past - adopt and spoil Wei Wuxian.

The slip of the tongue came out too naturally, but old habits, especially developed through centuries, hardly died. There was only a soft, grave chuckle, and then a faint whisper:

But—you gave me something so important, I didn't know any other way to give you something back. I didn't feel like I had anything worth giving, except my life, and my soul—I've spent so long just hating myself, wasting it, but if I could've given it to you—"
"Jinu," Rumi says, "Jinu."
"You gave me my soul back," he says wetly, squeezing her hand. "And now... I'm doing my best to take care of it."
Or: Rumi's demon heritage, Jinu's newfound soul, Zoey and Mira's love that now has a safe place to land. Everything is gentle, and everyone lives.

The innkeeper looked at them all, and then turned to Lan Wangji, clearly noting his robes, headpiece, and sword. “Chief Cultivator,” he said, stammering slightly. Lan Wangji didn’t sigh as he sheathed Bichen, but it was a near thing.
Jiang Wanyin scoffed as he watched. “Take us to his room,” he snapped at the innkeeper, and the man led the sect leaders and their first disciples to the room that had been Wei Wuxian’s.
The first thing Lan Wangji noticed was the red-black blood smeared on the floorboards, and then the black flute sitting in the centre of the room, innocuously still and plain.
(OR: Wei Wuxian is kidnapped. Somehow, this leads to Lan Wangji playing Chenqing, Jiang Wanyin revealing he thought they were already married, and a few love confessions.)

Everything is happening so fast. Wei Wuxian can barely think straight. Lan Wangji kissed him. That has to mean something.
“I think we have to tell them, Lan Zhan.” He looks at Lan Wangji as he says it, but makes sure to project his voice. Lan Wangji is still frozen, his eyes searching Wei Wuxian’s face, but something flickers in Lan Wangji’s eyes when Wei Wuxian uses his birth name. Wei Wuxian can’t ask the question he wants to, so he gives Lan Wangji a reassuring smile instead, mouths a quick “sorry,” and looks back at Jiang Yanli.
Hell breaks loose.The one where Lan Wangji is caught on Baifeng Mountain - and realizing for the first time that Lan Wangji might want Wei Wuxian the way that Wei Wuxian wants him, Wei Wuxian finds himself unwilling to allow Lan Wangji to suffer the consequences of his actions.

They are all called to enter the room that has been delegated to this event, they move in the most orderly manner Wei Wuxian has ever seen them move. That is how much they respect the Lan sect— or how much they fear them.
When he is escorted to the middle of the room, the cultivators part in front of him, going to their own seats, leaving him there, with two Lan disciples at his sides. Wei Wuxian bows to show his respect to Hanguang-jun, who is seated on the elevated seat that he makes look like a throne.“Approach,” Hanguang-jun says. His voice is firm and authoritative, the voice of a leader, a commander.
Wei Wuxian obeys.
In which Wei Wuxian figures out quickly that he isn't meant to be a hostage, but he doesn't quite know how to deal with the fact that he is being treated like an esteemed guest. He isn't complaining though.
