Steve's there now, languishing in the hell his own mind created, and it's worse than agony to know it because he loves Steve more than life, more than his own damn soul and there is no torment he would not go through to set him free. But Bucky can't. He can't free Steve unless Steve wants to free himself and he knows without question that his wonderful idiot of a best friend thinks he deserves it.

Summary
When Bucky is woken up from being in the ice and demands to come along on the mission to rescue Vision with the Secret Avengers, Steve doesn't realise he's walking them into a trap. Held in a room and forced to relive his worst memories, envision his worst fears and answer questions he hasn't dared ask himself in an attempt to recreate Steve's serum, he's prepared to risk everything to let his team get their freedom back. However, when his darkest secrets and feelings start to overflow, it gets harder and harder for his friends to watch from behind the glass as Steve is pulled apart.

Written for a prompt on avengerkink:
I want to see something where, for whatever reason, Steve's accelerated healing turns out to be a bad thing. Something where the faster healing is making things worse. I would prefer something other than the standard, super-healing allows for more torture without death.
“He's lucky – to have the serum, to have you all.” Tony wasn't sure about that first part.
When one faced death and destruction every day on the job, there were many advantages to having a healing factor...and a great many disadvantages as well.
