« Il y a dix-huit ans, un tremblement de terre a ravagé Gotham City, suite auquel, au lieu d’aider, le gouvernement américain a scellé la ville sous "quarantaine" et les a laissés pour morts. Deux ans plus tard, quand des signes de vie et même de civilisation étaient toujours détectables au sein de la cité brisée, le gouvernement a envoyé l’armée pour reprendre et réhabiliter Gotham. Gotham n’a pas oublié, et n’a pas pardonné non plus. »
Un UA où une version altérée de No Man’s Land est arrivée quand Bruce était jeune adulte, et où Batman est né dans le creuset infernal d’une cité piégée et qui fut laissée pour morte puis violemment reprise. Gotham prétend peut-être de suivre les règles du continent dans l’intérêt de ceux qui seraient morts autrement, mais sous la surface, Bruce, Jim, Leslie, Ivy et Oswald et leur meute ont toujours leur propre conseil, et observent le continent d’un regard aigri.
