Captain Curly was not a good man. He didn't know if he ever was one, but he certainly wasn't when his crew needed him to be.
So maybe it's justice that his former friend, the one Anya tried so desperately to make him do something, anything, about gets to terrorize him. At least this way the attention is off of Anya. But it doesn't seem to be enough. She's still at her breaking point, and he still can't do anything to help her.
But what if the crew decided to do something about it? What if instead of despair, they took their power back?
What if they could do what Curly wouldn't?

Summary
A technician who specializes in synthetic salvage and repair finds a diamond in the rough in the form of a David series android destroyed and forgotten in a refuse heap. She has no idea what she'd getting herself into when she decides to try her luck at putting him back together again. Will he even turn on again? If he does, will he ever be fully operational again? And what on Earth is she going to do with him if he is?
This is a story that takes place in the Alien franchise during the 2090's on Earth. Technically canon compliant in the sense that there are no connections to the original characters or story lines from the prequel films, aside from having a David 8 unit as a major character. The story is also closer to a 'Teen and Up' rating for the first half, but around chapter 5 or so things progress a bit to the point that I felt it might be safer to just preemptively list the fic as 'Mature'. By chapter 15 the 'Explicit' rating begins to apply on select scenes/chapters.

You are walking down a subway station in downtown Detroit. The place is filled with garbage, with dirt, with vagrants and the rest of humanity’s unwanteds. There is a rat dying in the corner of the subway, convulsing amidst a pile of garbage. There is a homeless man leaning against the wall nearest you. He has blue lips and chattering teeth, thanks to this years’ cold December draft. There is a beer bottle in the man’s right hand and an empty cup for change in his left. The man takes a sip from his beer bottle and the rat squeaks weakly amongst the discarded litter in what you assume are its last dying words.
Or,
Connor deviates earlier than expected and Hank is drowning in his sorrows.

Summary
There’s something living in the wood shed.
With winter fast approaching it’s not surprising for animals to take shelter there. Last year he’d played host to a family of opossums nesting in the back corners.
He isn’t sure what’s taken up residence this year, though. After noticing his new neighbor he left out food and water, both of which were untouched the next day. But whatever is in there is coming and going. Through the latched door, even. Which signals a level of intelligence beyond the usual woodland creature. A stray kobold? Or a goblin? He guesses and leaves food suitable for either. It remains untouched.
That’s when his curiosity gets the better of him.
Or, Local hermit druid finds a vampire in his shed and decides to adopt it as he would any other wounded animal. As one does.
