There had never been the right moment to say it, she’d read ‘how to come out’ guides over and over but something had always come up. First, it was that her mom’s addiction was getting worse so she’d have to stay with her dad, then her dad had his own problems, then it was Miguel in a coma, then it was going to jail, then it was her dad accidentally pushing her into a locker and knocking her unconscious with a permanent facial scar to boot and on and on. Before she knew it she was a passenger in her own life just watching it drift by the car window.

For a second he'd wondered if everything else had been a dream. If he was finally waking up now, after all these years. That Never Come Down had never been a hit, that he'd never been famous at all. That it was him and Matt who were going on tour.
That was something they used to talk about. After booking the Rivoli, they'd tour Canada and the U.S. as Nirvanna the Band. A road trip adventure. Jay had such a clear image in his mind of Matt coming up with some crazy promotional stunt for them, something like jumping into the Grand Canyon.
“You with me, Bird?”
But no, that couldn't be right. Jay was the same Jay he'd always been. He was still in his Hawaiian shirt from the concert. He was in restraints.
“Did you—" He blinked at Matt in front of him. "You kidnapped me?”
Matt stood up, a little taken back. “How else would I be able to talk to you?"
God, they'd ended up in a Misery homage?On the first night of Canadian Rockstar Jay McCarrol’s world tour, the man disappears.

Summary
Through everything, there's an overlay of I want to take his hand, that's so stupid. It's dark here, he could kiss me and nobody would have to know. Is he rough with himself – would he be rough with me? Could he be loud for me? Could I shut him up? It makes Jay feel like looseleaf paper falling out of the sheaf, mixed up with no context, can't figure out where anything gets put back.

That's not possible, is Matt's first thought but he clamps down on it because this is Jay, and Jay is wandering Spadina, and Jay is also here in his room. So. Something impossible is now possible and it may as well be time travel.
"You're a time traveller." Matt giggles. "Holy shit. Holy shit. How did you—? No, never mind that, what am I thinking. Do you have a sports almanac on you? Any winning lotto numbers?"
